Grell Sutcliff
格雷尔·沙多克里夫 グレル・サトクリフ
Gender:Male
A Grim Reaper from the Dispatch Management Division's Retrieval Department. Initially appeared as the butler of Madame Red (at the Barnett residence). Characterized by red long hair, red attire, and a flamboyant speaking style with sharp teeth. The first character introduced in the series as a Grim Reaper, Grell Sutcliff has a fondness for red (blood) and handsome men, and possesses a psychotic nature, enjoying killing while laughing. Grell often ends sentences with "DEATH" or "★". Wields a chainsaw-shaped death scythe. Despite recognizing demons, like Sebastian, as incompatible with Grim Reapers, Grell is infatuated with "Sebas-chan" and is keen on fighting him, including to the death. However, Grell's true love is said to be William. Grell first appeared in the "Jack the Ripper Arc", initially portrayed as Madame Red's butler, a character who was timid, incompetent in everything, and couldn't even properly brew tea. However, by the end of the arc, Grell's true identity as a Grim Reaper is revealed. Grell had taken a liking to Madame Red, who was committing a series of bizarre murders, and assisted her, sometimes even killing those who were not yet meant to die. When Madame Red hesitated to kill Ciel, Grell decided to abandon and kill her. Later, Grell is tortured and nearly killed by Sebastian, who seals the chainsaw, but is saved by William just in time. However, due to numerous violations, William reprimands Grell, leading to a suspension. Grell reappears towards the end of the "Noah's Ark Circus Arc", having been relieved from suspension, and continues to appear frequently in the series as a Grim Reaper. In the anime version, the "Jack the Ripper Arc" largely follows the original manga, but Grell is not suspended. Instead, Grell is temporarily demoted to menial tasks and has the chainsaw-shaped death scythe confiscated. Grell reappears wielding two scissors, which, despite being sharp, have significantly less power (these too are confiscated, and Grell reappears with even smaller scissors). In episode 24 of the first season, in response to an emergency, William temporarily grants Grell permission to use the chainsaw-shaped death scythe again.
