Due to his achievements during his active days, he has deep connections with local influential figures, and through one of them, the principal of Kitasai High School, he arranged for Matsuri and Suzu to be in the same class to make it easier for Suzu to protect her. Since the arrival of the lodger Latica, he has been affectionately called "Jed," though playing with her sometimes results in a sore back. He explained the harsh fate of Suzu as a spirit medium to a young Matsuri, prompting her to decide to become an exorcist ninja. He has been wary of Shirogane's power since his active days and spent 30 years creating the essential "Sealing God Scroll" for the sealing barrier, which he has now passed on to Matsuri.
