Tadayoshi Ashikaga
足利直义 足利直義(あしかが ただよし)
Gender:Male
The younger brother of Tadayoshi. Unlike his brother who acts on intuition, he makes decisions based on logic. While he gets along well with his brother, he treats him with respect despite his brother's overly familiar demeanor. He senses the presence of something inhuman within his brother and is uneasy about it. Assigned to Kamakura by his brother, he works tirelessly as the shikken (regent) of the Kamakura Shogunate Office to maintain public order and assist in reconstruction, gaining the support of the populace. He governs the eccentric Kanto warriors with reason. As a politician, he is extremely capable but has one critical flaw: "he is weak in battle" and cannot grasp the subtleties of warfare. During the Nakasendai Rebellion, known as the Nanboku-chō demon tag "Golden Demon," he engages Tokiyuki in negotiation and verbal battles. He almost suppresses Tokiyuki with his words that have the pressure of a high monk, but the negotiations break down when Tokiyuki accuses the Ashikaga of plotting treason against the Emperor. In the battle, he tries to control Tokiaki Miura with reason, but this only leads to rebellion as he fails to sway his emotions. Ultimately, he is defeated and driven out of Kamakura.
