The third test examiner is a long-term prisoner serving a 149-year sentence as a serial bomber. He uses a candle in a game where "the one whose flame goes out first loses," setting up a trick by preparing four candles to make it seem like there are only two choices. Regardless of whether Gon chooses the long or short candle, the setup puts him at a disadvantage. However, Gon uses his wits to turn the tables and defeats him.
