Paul Ferman
保罗・法曼 ポール・ファーマン
A fledgling young artist who primarily paints fairies. He is 3 or 4 years older than Edgar. His light brown curly hair is left untamed, and he seems to care little about his appearance. His gentle demeanor matches his mild and natural personality, making him well-liked by those around him. He is a member of the band of noble thieves known as "Scarlet Moon." When Paul was 16 years old, he stayed with the Duke of Sylvanford's household as an apprentice to the painter O'Neill, his biological father, and met Edgar, who was the young lord of the duke's household. At that time, Paul was troubled by his perceived lack of talent in painting and was more interested in poetry. However, young Edgar advised him, "It would be a waste for someone who can turn their thoughts into pictures instead of words not to become a painter," which made Paul reconsider his feelings about his art. The two parted ways after Paul promised to dedicate a painting to Edgar once he could create one that satisfied him. Shortly thereafter, the duke’s household was destroyed by the Prince's conspiracy, and Edgar was taken to America. Meanwhile, Paul and his father O'Neill were also targeted by the Prince, but Paul alone was saved and protected by the "Scarlet Moon," becoming the adopted son of the painter Ferman. Nearly ten years later, at an exhibition where Paul was showcasing his work as an artist, he reunited with Edgar, now the Earl of Ashenbert. Despite sensing a resemblance to the young lord of the duke's household, Paul did not believe that Edgar could be the same person who was supposed to be dead. Misunderstanding Edgar as a minion of the Prince, members of the "Scarlet Moon" instructed Paul to hand over poison to assassinate Edgar. Paul resolved to carry out the assassination at one point, but Edgar's words made him realize that Edgar was indeed the young lord from the duke's household, causing him to withdraw at the last moment. Paul deeply respects Edgar, and they build a relationship of mutual trust and friendship. Initially, Paul mistakenly thought of Lotta as Edgar's former lover. Now that the misunderstanding has been cleared, he seems to be more conscious of her as a woman rather than just a friend. After the main story, Paul decides to go to Paris to improve his painting skills. Despite intending not to tell Lotta due to their different social standings, he finally confesses his feelings with Edgar's encouragement.
