Mareho Kikuishi was inspired by reading that the human brain sacrifices focus and comprehension to process vast internet information.

She wondered if humans might eventually evolve into "machines" for data handling.

This led to imagining a society where both humans become machine-like, and androids grow more human.

Her love for Isaac Asimov's "The Caves of Steel" also influenced the “buddy-cop, human meets robot investigator” dynamic.

Kikuishi wrote the initial manuscript in about a month.

She noted that sometimes, even in dreams, characters would “demand more excitement” from their story.

Set in a reimagined 1992, the world is shaken by a pandemic of viral encephalitis.

To combat this, the revolutionary neural device "Your Forma" is developed.

Functioning as an invasive brain-interface, Your Forma prevents the disease and doubles as a daily life-recording terminal, quickly becoming essential worldwide.

A new law enforcement agency emerges: Electric Investigators, or “Densaku-kan.”

These specialists probe compiled minds (“Machine Memories”) gathered by Your Forma, cracking complicated crimes through unprecedented access to collective experience.

The genius investigator Echika Hieda is the youngest to qualify as an Electric Investigator.

She forms an uneasy partnership with Harold W. Lucraft, a human-shaped android called Amicus.

Together, they solve daring crimes by diving directly into memories recorded by Your Forma devices.

The story thrives on their contrast—Echika's cold logic and sharp mind, versus Harold's charming, deeply empathetic nature.

Light Novel

The original light novels have been published under Dengeki Bunko, reaching at least seven volumes as of April 2025.

Manga

A comic adaptation was serialized in Young Ace magazine from July 2021 to October 2023, illustrated by Yoshinori Kisaragi, totaling three volumes.

TV Anime

The TV anime adaptation began airing in April 2025 in TV Asahi's new “IMAnimation W” timeslot across Japan.

Directed by Takaharu Ozaki and with series composition and screenplay by Kazuyuki Fudeyasu, the anime is produced by Geno Studio.

Unusually, the anime opts to start from Volume 2, focusing on Harold’s arc, planting mysteries about Volume 1 as flashbacks and subplots for viewers to piece together.

Director Takaharu Ozaki explained that starting the anime from Novel Volume 2 allowed for a more cohesive narrative, as this is where Harold’s story takes central stage.

The production aims to carefully showcase the growth and evolving relationship between Echika and Harold, not shying from the emotional tension and gradual mutual admiration.

Your Forma won the 27th Dengeki Novel Prize’s top honor, the “Grand Prize.”

It ranked 10th in the “Next Coming Light Novel Awards 2021” in the Newly Written Titles division.
