I Parry Everything is a Japanese light novel series written by Nabeshiki, originally serialized on the “Shōsetsuka ni Narō” website since October 2019.

The story follows Noor, a young man obsessed with becoming an adventurer, who possesses no recognized “useful skills”—except his only talent: the ability to parry anything.

Despite his lack of talent, Noor’s relentless training leads him to develop an incomparably strong parry.

Oblivious to his true prowess, he unknowingly performs superhuman feats, attracting allies, changing fates, and setting himself on a path to unintended greatness.

The series has received light novel, manga, and anime adaptations, quickly becoming a breakout hit in the fantasy adventure genre.

Author Nabeshiki began publishing the series on the novel-sharing platform Shōsetsuka ni Narō in 2019.

Inspired by classic “overpowered but humble protagonist” tropes, Nabeshiki created a world where the hero’s power goes unnoticed—first by himself, then by others.

Illustrator Kawaguchi provided character artwork for the light novel release, and KRSG later adapted the manga.

“I Parry Everything” achieved the number one annual ranking on the website in March 2020, prompting its official publication under Earth Star Novels.

Set in a medieval fantasy kingdom called Clays, the story revolves around the adventurer guild system and six professional class training institutes.

Abilities are divided into “classes” (Swordsman, Warrior, Hunter, Thief, Mage, Priest), and one’s fate is supposedly determined by the “useful skills” one awakens.

The Clays Kingdom is ruled by King Clays, a legendary retired adventurer and S-rank hero, who is supported by a team called “The Six Saints,” elite class leaders who maintain order and train the next generation.

Noor, orphaned after his mother’s death, dreams of emulating his father’s legendary adventures and sets off to the capital at age 12.

After failing to awaken any “useful skill” in all six training institutes, Noor is deemed talentless and sent home, but he doesn’t give up.

Fifteen years of daily “parry” training transform his sole skill into an unrivaled art—even if he remains blind to his own strength.

On returning to the capital, Noor persuades the reluctant guild master to let him become an F-rank adventurer, below even E-rank, and dedicates himself to menial tasks around the city.

His sincerity and work ethic win the love of the townsfolk, but Noor’s heroic fate is ignited when he inadvertently rescues the princess, Lynne, and defeats a Minotaur-class monster with his parry alone.

Unbeknownst to Noor, this act introduces chaos into the world order, as teammates and royalty alike begin misunderstanding and worshipping his charisma and “hidden wisdom.”

A parade of memorable allies join Noor: Lynne (the prodigy princess-adventurer and loyal disciple), Ines (the kingdom’s “Divine Shield” and elite warrior), and Rolo (the gentle-hearted outcast demon boy Noor saves from peril).

Together, they face threats from invading empires, rogue S-class assassins, and dragons—all while Noor humorously downplays his heroics, misinterprets major events, and remains refreshingly humble.

Parry:

A skill to deflect attacks using a weapon. For others, it simply blocks an incoming hit. Noor, however, can parry attacks at a distance, reflect energy, and even redirect magical forces—all without realizing he is breaking common sense.

Useful Skill:

Special abilities considered necessary for professional adventurers (e.g., combat arts, magic, healing). Noor’s lack of these leads everyone (himself included) to underestimate him.

The Six Saints:

The most powerful guardians of the Clays Kingdom, each specializing as Sword Saint, Shield Saint, Bow Saint, Hidden Saint, Magic Saint, and Healing Saint.

Adventurer Guild Ranks:

Adventurers are classified E to S; Noor’s “F-rank” is a make-believe job tier created out of pity, meant for non-combat menial tasks.

The light novel series is published under Earth Star Novels, featuring illustrations by Kawaguchi, and has reached over one million copies in circulation as of late 2024.

A manga adaptation by KRSG has been serialized in Earth Star Comics since September 2020, compiling four volumes by July 2024.

An anime adaptation produced by OLM aired from July to September 2024, covering 12 episodes and bringing to life Noor’s adventures with vibrant animation and a star-studded cast.

The anime was helmed by director Dai Fukuyama, with Shigeru Murakoshi on series composition and Chikako Noma as character designer.

The voice cast includes Daiki Hamano as Noor, Ryoko Maekawa as Lynne, Nanako Mori as Ines, and Ayumu Murase as Rolo.

The opening and ending themes feature artists from the Uta Hime Dream ensemble.

Opening: “AMBITION”

Performed by Maika Sakuragi (Uta Hime Dream / Anna Suzuki), written by Spirit Garden, composed by Hoshimi Iwahashi.

Ending: “No Gifted”

Performed by Uta Hime Dream All Stars, with lyrics by ZAQ and arrangement by Yuki Nara.

The series quickly climbed the “Shōsetsuka ni Narō” rankings, captivating readers with its lighthearted protagonist and unconventional take on the “overpowered hero” trope.

It has sold over a million copies and inspired a vibrant fandom, blending comedy, fantasy adventure, and heartfelt misunderstandings in a refreshing, crowd-pleasing formula.

To celebrate both the anime and the fourth manga volume, a live-action TV commercial featuring comedy talent Moody Katsuyama parrying attacks aired during the show’s TV time slot, delighting fans with its playful spirit.
