Rooster Fighter is a Japanese battle-action manga series by Shu Sakuratani about a vengeful rooster named Keiji who travels across Japan fighting monstrous creatures known as Demon Beasts.

Rooster Fighter is serialized on the Heroes web platform Comiplex, beginning on December 18, 2020.

The series is published under the Heroes Comics label and has gained notable popularity in North America and Central and South America, leading to licensed translations in over 50 countries.

Rooster Fighter is the second serialized work by manga creator Shu Sakuratani after T-DRAGON.

The manga mixes over-the-top action, dark humor, and emotional drama, centering on a superpowered rooster battling grotesque monsters.

The main genre of the series is battle action, with strong elements of monster fantasy and black comedy.

Animals and pets, especially chickens, take the spotlight instead of human heroes.

The story takes place in Japan in the near future, sometime in the 20XXs.

In this world, humanity is threatened by mysterious gigantic creatures called Demon Beasts.

Demon Beasts have appeared for about three years, and more than 500 of them have been confirmed.

Their forms vary wildly, but they share some traits: they have horns, they destroy cities, and they attack humans indiscriminately with very simple, low-level behavior.

Despite their animalistic actions, Demon Beasts are usually transformed humans.

When strong emotions such as hatred, desire, or extreme stress swell beyond control, a swelling appears on the back of a person’s neck and erupts into masses of flesh, turning the person into a monstrous Demon Beast.

These transformed humans often scream out their grievances while rampaging, shouting things like how they have no place at home or how they must meet impossible work quotas.

This turns social frustration and personal despair into literal city-smashing monsters.

Recently, mutated types of Demon Beasts have begun to appear.

These variants retain more human-like emotions and intelligence, and some are even harmless or go as far as helping humans instead of attacking them.

Rooster Fighter follows Keiji, a sharp-eyed, hot-blooded rooster with human-level intelligence.

He travels all over Japan, hunting Demon Beasts in search of a specific one that killed his beloved younger sister.

Keiji’s sister, Sara, was eaten by a Demon Beast whose defining feature is a distinctive mark on the right side of its neck.

When Keiji discovers online images of a “White Demon Beast” that looks similar to his sister’s killer, he sets out on a journey to find it and take revenge.

Along his travels, Keiji battles Demon Beasts of all kinds, protects humans despite his gruff attitude, and ends up gathering unique traveling companions.

The series mixes brutal, high-speed combat with emotional backstories and surprisingly heartfelt moments among the animal characters.

Demon Beasts are gigantic monsters that symbolize the darkest side of human emotions.

Their origin lies in humans whose overwhelming feelings cause their bodies to twist and burst into monstrous forms.

Most Demon Beasts act without rational thought.

They smash buildings, attack crowds, and roar out their complaints while unable to stop themselves.

The monster designs are diverse, often grotesque or bizarre, but the horn motif and their massive size are common.

Their main weak point is the brain, which is crucial in how Keiji fights them.

The emergence of more intelligent mutant Demon Beasts complicates the once-simple “kill or be killed” equation.

Some of these new variants possess empathy and rationality, and a few even act as allies or saviors to humans.

Keiji is a male rooster and the main protagonist of Rooster Fighter.

He has a fierce gaze, a tough “old-school delinquent” attitude, and the physical power to fight Demon Beasts head-on despite being just a rooster.

Keiji possesses superhuman speed and reflexes, allowing him to dart around enormous monsters and strike their weak points.

His swimming, however, is comically terrible, and water is one of his few practical weaknesses.

His signature technique targets the Demon Beasts’ vulnerable brains.

By unleashing an unbelievably loud crow, he can literally rupture a monster’s brain and destroy it.

His primary finisher is a devastating crow known as “Kokekokko,” represented as a complex, overwhelming scream that shatters the Demon Beast’s brain.

He also has variant techniques, such as an advanced version called “Eagle Kokekokko” and a spinning, whirlwind-style move called “Kurukuru Kokekokko.”

Keiji’s life is driven by revenge for his sister’s death.

He roams Japan in search of the Demon Beast with a mark on its right neck, the monster that devoured Sara.

Despite his heroic actions, Keiji is far from a flawless saint.

He is blunt, easily irritated, and often says that things are “pissing him off to the extreme,” showing his short fuse and rough personality.

Keiji has a strong sexual drive and frequently goes into mating seasons where he aggressively pursues hens.

Most of these encounters end as one-night stands, leaving behind broken hearts and comedic tension.

He loves sea urchin and treats it as a rare delicacy.

Piyoko affectionately calls him “Hubby,” revealing how his gruff charm has won over his companions.

Piyoko

Piyoko is a female chick and one of Keiji’s main traveling companions.

She grew up under a chick-selling gangster whom she affectionately called “Dad.”

Her “Dad” was a yakuza-like figure who sold chicks for a living.

He once wrote the word “Honor and Loyalty” on Piyoko’s back with a marker, and that phrase became her life’s guiding principle.

Because of this, Piyoko deeply values duty, loyalty, and human (or rather, bird) bonds.

She tries to act tough and honorable even though she is small and cute.

At one point, her beloved “Dad” transforms into a Demon Beast and loses control.

Keiji defeats him in battle, allowing him to return to his human form instead of dying as a monster.

Grateful that Keiji saved her “Dad,” Piyoko falls in love with Keiji.

She then chooses to follow Keiji on his journey, calling him “Hubby” and openly declaring that she plans to marry him someday.

Piyoko often provides comic relief as well as emotional grounding.

Her unwavering devotion to Keiji and her sense of honor make her both endearing and surprisingly brave.

Elizabeth

Elizabeth is a sophisticated hen raised in a wealthy household.

Because of her upbringing, she is highly educated and tech-savvy, capable of using advanced gadgets and modern technology.

She is able to operate smartphones and uses them to communicate directly with humans.

This skill sets her apart as an information specialist within the group.

Elizabeth once fell for Keiji and even spent a night with him.

However, Keiji disappeared casually the next morning without any explanation, leaving her heartbroken and furious.

Feeling that her feelings were toyed with, Elizabeth initially wants to kill Keiji when they meet again.

But her lingering feelings for him prevent her from going all out, and she cannot bring herself to truly take his life.

Beyond romance, Elizabeth has her own grand mission: the total extermination of Demon Beasts.

Recognizing that Keiji shares the same enemies, she decides to join his journey and work with him toward that goal.

Elizabeth fights using a specialized weapon called the “Thunder Baton,” which can unleash 10 million volts of electricity.

She channels this power into techniques such as “Thunder Bird,” a punishing electric attack that blasts enemies with raw voltage.

Her combat style complements Keiji’s physical attacks with high-tech, high-voltage strikes.

She brings strategy, technology, and a sharp tongue, adding a different flavor to the group’s dynamic.

Rooster Fighter blends absurdity with sincerity.

The idea of a rooster punching giant monsters might sound silly, but the story often addresses grief, resentment, and the weight of personal trauma.

The Demon Beasts themselves are metaphors for the emotional pressures of modern life.

They literally turn intense stress, hatred, and frustration into monstrous forms that wreak havoc.

Keiji’s revenge quest adds a classic action narrative backbone.

At the same time, his bonds with Piyoko, Elizabeth, and the people he saves give the story warmth and emotional payoff.

The tone swings freely between brutal, cinematic battles and crude, sometimes raunchy humor.

It also makes space for heartfelt moments about family, loss, and chosen companionship.

Rooster Fighter is serialized digitally on the Heroes platform Comiplex.

It belongs to the Heroes Comics line, which focuses on action-oriented titles.

The series began on December 18, 2020.

Its positive reception abroad, especially in North and Latin America, led to official translation and publication in over 50 countries.

Several collected volumes have been released in Japanese under different Heroes Comics imprints.

These include the main Rooster Fighter line and an HC Heroes Comics edition, each representing collected tankobon-style volumes.

Under the HC Heroes Comics label, volume 1 was released on May 1, 2021, followed by subsequent volumes.

Volume 2 came out on October 1, 2021, volume 3 on March 1, 2022, volume 4 on August 1, 2022, volume 5 on January 1, 2023, volume 6 on August 1, 2023, and volume 7 on January 1, 2024.

Later volumes under the Heroes and Rooster Fighter labels continue the series.

Volume 8 was released on August 5, 2024, volume 9 on January 6, 2025, and volume 10 on July 4, 2025.

Each volume collects several chapters from the web serialization, offering a more convenient way to read the story in print form.

As the series continues, the world of Demon Beasts, Keiji’s past, and the mysteries behind the mutations are further explored.
