Corpse Party is a Japanese horror adventure game series developed by Team GrisGris, originally created by Makoto Kedouin using RPG Tsukuru Dante98 software.

The first entry, simply titled *Corpse Party*, was released in 1996 as part of *LOGIN Sofcom* issue 6 after winning the grand prize at the second ASCII Entertainment Software Contest.

The series is known for its juxtaposition of cute anime-style character designs with extremely gory and gruesome horror content, creating a uniquely unsettling experience.

The narrative typically follows a group of high school students from Kisaragi Academy who perform a charm called "Sachiko Ever After" as a farewell for a transferring classmate, Mayu Suzumoto.

After completing the ritual, a sudden earthquake transports them to a decaying, haunted elementary school known as Heavenly Host Elementary, where they are separated and must find a way to escape.

The school exists in a distorted space-time where past and present intermingle, and the students are relentlessly hunted by the vengeful spirits of children who died in a tragic past incident.

From the Original Dante98 Version

Satoshi Mochida: The 17-year-old protagonist who is timid and easily scared but fiercely protective of his younger sister, Yuka Mochida.

Naomi Nakashima: Satoshi's childhood friend and classmate who harbors feelings for him; she is also the best friend of Seiko Shinohara.

Yoshiki Kishinuma: Satoshi's best friend with a sharp tongue and cynical attitude, though he is fundamentally kind-hearted.

Ayumi Shinozaki: The class representative who introduces the "Sachiko Ever After" charm, inadvertently setting the story's tragic events in motion.

Yuka Mochida: Satoshi's 14-year-old sister whose devotion to her brother leads her to bring him an umbrella, trapping her in the nightmare as well.

From the Remake Series

Seiko Shinohara: Naomi's cheerful and outspoken best friend who acts as a surrogate mother for her younger siblings.

Mayu Suzumoto: A drama club member whose sudden transfer prompts the fateful charm; she is affectionately called "Shige-nii" by Sakutaro Morishige.

Sakutaro Morishige: A calm, detached drama club member who is only truly close to Mayu Suzumoto.

Yui Shishido: The 23-year-old assistant homeroom teacher whose friendly, airheaded nature makes her popular with her students.

Original and Early Versions

The 1996 PC-98 original was built with RPG Tsukuru Dante98 and released as a freeware title.

A mobile phone version titled *Corpse Party New Chapter* was distributed between 2006 and 2007 but remained unfinished after four chapters.

Corpse Party BloodCovered (Windows)

The Windows remake series, released from 2008 to 2011, upgraded the graphics, music, and scenario across five chapters.

The final Chapter 5 added three new bad endings alongside the true ending, and multiple "Extra Chapters" were provided as supplementary stories.

Corpse Party: Blood Covered Repeated Fear (PSP, 3DS, PS4, Switch)

This consumer port, released in 2010, featured fully redrawn character art, event CGs, and new Extra Chapters.

The 3DS version launched in 2015, followed by PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch ports in February 2021.

Corpse Party: Book of Shadows

Released in 2011 for PSP, this sequel shifted to a point-and-click visual novel format with a "Darkening" mental corruption system.

The seven episodes explore prequels, sequels, and alternate timelines, with Chapter 8 serving as a prologue to the next major installment.

Corpse Party: Blood Drive

Released in 2014 for PlayStation Vita, this entry was billed as the conclusion to the Heavenly Host arc, directly continuing from *Book of Shadows*.

Later ports arrived on iOS, Android, Steam, and Nintendo Switch.

Corpse Party 2: Dead Patient

This spin-off, set years after the original series, began distribution in 2013 and follows a new cast in a different setting.

As of 2014, only Chapter 1 had been released.

Spin-off: Sachiko's Hysteric Birthday

This comedic anthology, released in 2012, features nine writers crafting love-comedy scenarios with Sachiko Shinozaki hosting a birthday party for the trapped characters.

*Corpse Party BloodCovered*, illustrated by Toshimi Shinomiya, ran from 2008 to 2012 in *Gangan Powered* and later *Monthly Gangan JOKER*, totaling ten volumes.

*Corpse Party; Musume*, by Mika Orige, adapted the Dante98 storyline in *Monthly Comic Alive* from 2010 to 2012 across three volumes.

*Corpse Party Another Child*, by Shunsuke Ogata, introduced a new cast from a different school and ran in *Monthly Comic Blade* from 2011 to 2013.

*Corpse Party Book of Shadows*, also by Mika Orige, adapted the PSP game's stories in *Monthly Comic Alive* between 2012 and 2014.

*Corpse Party Cemetery0*, by Ichihaya, delved into the backstory of spirit investigator Naho Saenoki from 2012 to 2014.

*Corpse Party: Sachiko's Hysteric Birthday 2U*, by En Shibata, adapted the comedic spin-off on *Famitsu Comic Clear* from 2012 to 2014.

A manga adaptation of the 2015 live-action film, illustrated by Takumi, ran in *Monthly Gangan JOKER* from 2015 to 2016.

The *Corpse Party BloodCovered* drama CD series was released between 2008 and 2009, featuring two volumes.

The *Project Dollies* two-part CD, linked to *Book of Shadows*, launched in September 2011.

*Corpse Party 2 Dead Patient* received two drama CD volumes in 2013 and 2017.

A special summer-themed CD titled *Storm-calling! Abandoned Inn One-Night-Two-Day Trip* was released in August 2014.

Corpse Party: Missing Footage

This OAD was bundled with the limited edition of *Sachiko's Hysteric Birthday 2U* and featured a censored version due to its Z rating; an uncensored version was available via a mail-in campaign.

Corpse Party: Tortured Souls

Released in July 2013 as a four-episode OVA, this adaptation of *Blood Covered Repeated Fear* received an R15+ rating for its intense gore and was screened theatrically before its home video release.

The first live-action movie, starring former Nogizaka46 member Rina Ikoma as Naomi Nakashima, premiered on August 1, 2015, adapting the core *Blood Covered* story.

A sequel, *Corpse Party: Book of Shadows*, followed on July 30, 2016, introducing Yuuya Kizami and featuring a cameo by Tomokazu Sugita as a corpse.

From 2010 to 2013, the series held annual summer events at Namco Nanja Town, featuring original horror scenarios in the "Corpse Party Hellish Toilet" attraction.

In 2015, a walk-through haunted house collaboration titled "Daiba Mysterious School" featured two seasonal events with newly recorded character voice work.
