Character Introduction

Edit
A dragon from another world (female). In her human form, she transforms into an adult woman with an outstanding figure, dark semi-short hair, and wears a light purple kimono over a black leotard-like undergarment. She carries a weapon resembling Poseidon's trident. To blend into human society, she dresses according to the situation. As a dragon, she has a long, finned body like a leviathan with a single horn like a narwhal.
She belongs to the "Harmony Faction," which values order and takes a somewhat conciliatory stance towards humans. She is the granddaughter of Terne, the No. 2 of the "Harmony Faction." She comes to Kobayashi's house to bring Tohru back, believing Tohru might disrupt the balance of the human world. However, she is swayed by her gluttonous nature and is eventually appeased. She then creates a human identity through magic, takes the name "Elma Joui," and starts working at Kobayashi's company as an office lady (OL) to earn a living.
Elma is earnest, has a strong sense of justice, and is straightforward and headstrong, sometimes to the point of inflexibility. She has an insatiable obsession with food, especially sweets. She was initially starving because she refrained from eating to avoid interfering with the human world. After tasting a cream bun given by Kobayashi, she was moved to tears by its deliciousness and became addicted to human cuisine. While she holds a sense of superiority over humans as a species, she generally shows proper manners and respect to her superiors and colleagues, except for speaking casually to them. Fafnir has noticed that she keeps a certain distance from humans due to being used by them in the past. Her relationship with Tohru became strained because of humans, and the fact that Tohru, who once looked down on humans, is now friendly with them, has further complicated their relationship. Despite their outward animosity, Elma still harbors friendship towards Tohru, and the time they spent together influenced Tohru's desire for "freedom."
Elma's power as a dragon is on par with Tohru's, and her pure strength surpasses other dragons. However, she lacks the magical ability to open portals to other worlds, making her unable to return to her original world on her own. She excels at making talismans more effective than those in the human world and possesses clairvoyance, which she uses to meticulously manage the schedules of all employees. Her learning ability as a dragon is high, and she has memorized the entire legal code as part of her effort to understand human society. Unlike Tohru and others, she can live underwater and was once caught by a fisherman, making her knowledgeable about fish behavior.
Initially, Elma didn't even know how to use a computer and was treated as a mascot at work. However, her innate seriousness, high dragon specs, and Kobayashi's careful guidance allowed her to quickly become proficient at her job. Her extraordinary drive, fueled by her appetite, sometimes involves the entire department, such as when she advocates for better working conditions to leave on time for limited-edition sweets. She spends her salary on human food, often carrying multiple shopping bags filled with food, and particularly enjoys taiyaki, ice cream, and pudding. She is weak to limited-time offers and can spend a long time deciding in front of stores, oblivious to the inconvenience to others. She lives alone in a rental property, making her the only dragon around Kobayashi who lives independently. Despite her gluttony, she doesn't gain weight, as dragons equate gaining weight with becoming stronger in battle, so she doesn't worry about overeating.
In her original world, Elma used her dragon power to mediate human conflicts and was revered as the "Holy Sea Priestess who performs miracles." She and Tohru, who appeared to punish her for "breaking the rules," became interested in each other and spent time together to "understand the essence of humans." However, as her followers formed a religion and created hierarchies, their values clashed, leading to a fierce dragon battle and their eventual separation. Since then, they have openly declared their animosity, but Kobayashi sees them as having a "quarrelsome but close relationship," and Fafnir describes Tohru's attitude towards Elma as "a facade of anger and murderous intent to hide her embarrassment."
Elma eventually tearfully reveals that her true purpose for coming to the human world was to reconcile with Tohru. After a heartfelt confrontation, they manage to put an end to their long-standing feud.
Anime version: Elma arrives in the human world around early autumn (during the Mid-Autumn Festival). She always shows up at events lured by food.
Spin-off works: In "Kanna's Daily Life," Elma shows her caring side by playing with Kanna and other children. In "Elma's Office Lady Diary," she is the protagonist, showcasing her daily life as an OL, interacting with female colleagues, and displaying her clumsiness, which Kobayashi attributes to her obsession with food. Her desire to bring Tohru back also includes a personal wish to "relive the fun days they had together," indicating her friendly feelings towards Tohru.
