Kanna Kamui

A young dragon from the other world (female) hailing from Ushishiru Island. Her nickname is Kanna. In the human world, she transforms into a girl of elementary school height, wearing a dress resembling traditional ethnic clothing. As a dragon, she has a small build characterized by white feathers covering her entire body and bird-like wings with jewels at both ends. Reflecting her human form, she is still young as a dragon and relatively weak compared to others like Tohru.

Named Kanna Kamui by her parents, who adopted a laissez-faire approach in hopes of raising a strong child, she often sought their attention through mischief. However, after breaking a "Dragon Jewel," a powerful artifact sealed over centuries, she was banished to the human world. Discovering that Tohru, thought to be dead, was alive, she tracked down Kobayashi's house and pleaded with Tohru to return with her. Touched by Kobayashi's understanding and kindness, she opened up and began living with Tohru at Kobayashi's place.

Kanna addresses elder dragons like Tohru and Elma with honorifics but looks down on humans, not using polite language or honorifics for them. She adores Tohru like an older sister and initially felt jealous of Kobayashi, who Tohru had fallen for, but grew to love her like a parent after experiencing her kindness. Though she hasn't chosen a faction among the three dragon forces ("Chaos," "Harmony," "Neutral"), she interacts with dragons from all factions without fear.

Though not very talkative, Kanna expresses her emotions vividly, often saying "Oh" when moved. She sometimes makes calm yet sharp remarks about others' actions. Curious and mischievous, she has restrained herself since meeting Kobayashi, limiting her pranks to minor, childlike curiosity. She also has a bad habit of eating small, unknown creatures.

Possessing extraordinary abilities as a dragon, Kanna excels in human society. During a visit to New York, she quickly learned English by gathering and analyzing surrounding language information. However, her dragon powers are considered immature by other dragons. True to her name, meaning "Thunder God," she can control lightning but in the human world, she transforms her tail into a plug to absorb electricity directly from outlets, converting it into magic power. The author revealed that it would take about a hundred years for Kanna to physically mature to Tohru's age (at least in terms of chest size). While she can't use recognition inhibition magic, she can skillfully use transformation magic, even flying in a human form with angel-like wings. In the anime's final episode, she demonstrated the ability to travel between worlds by flying Kobayashi to Tohru's battle.

Interested in school, Kanna uses a magically created family register by Tohru to attend Oborozuka Elementary School as Kobayashi's relative, "Kanna Kobayashi." She is in the third grade, class 2. Excelling in studies, sports, and socializing with classmates, she becomes close friends with Saikawa.

Despite her youth, Kanna confronts the species gap between dragons and humans, sharing her feelings with Tohru and cherishing her time with Kobayashi and Saikawa.

Anime Version: Kanna arrives in the human world around early spring (cherry blossom season). The anime depicts her adapting to human life through various seasonal events and daily activities with Tohru. Her catchphrase in the anime is "Seriously, isn't it crazy?" In episode 9 of the first season, which is mostly original to the anime, Kanna becomes the main character, beloved by her classmates, and she also cherishes them. The anime's design, featuring a slightly plumper Kanna, was well-received, influencing the author's illustrations and spin-off works to follow the anime's design.

Spin-off: In "Kanna's Daily Life," she is the protagonist. The spin-off explores her interactions with classmates like Saikawa and other dragons from her perspective. She serves as the class pet caretaker and loves chocolate. Her weight is slightly heavier than that of an average third-grader.
