Rio Nakamura

Attendance number 17. A female student with long blonde hair. She has a bold and straightforward demeanor, often making risque jokes that sometimes even make the boys uncomfortable. However, these actions stem from her desire to fit in with her classmates, and at her core, she is a serious and conscientious person who values harmony with others. In contrast to her usual carefree attitude, she occasionally shows a philosophical perspective. Her English grades are excellent, ranking 11th in the grade during the first semester midterms and 1st in the finals.

She is fond of Nagisa, often making suggestive remarks towards him, but she genuinely cares for him as a friend. When she learned about his family situation, she sincerely apologized. It seems she had romantic feelings for Nagisa for some time, but after witnessing Kaede's earnest affection for him, she decided to step back during Valentine's Day.

Originally, she was a prodigy who scored perfect marks on sixth-grade tests as a first grader, earning the nickname "genius elementary student." However, this led to her isolation, and in an attempt to be like everyone else, she developed poor behavior and her grades dropped, resulting in her placement in Class E. She struggled with the dilemma of wanting to improve academically while also wanting to be on the same level as her peers, but she was grateful to Koro-sensei for helping her achieve both. She aspires to become a diplomat in the future.

After learning about Koro-sensei's past and his reasons for coming to Class E, she accepted them and argued that they should continue the mission to assassinate Koro-sensei to fulfill his wishes. She was the first to oppose the idea of halting Nagisa and the others' assassination plans.

Seven years later, she is studying abroad in England, and upon returning to Japan, she works as a freelance interpreter while aiming for mid-career recruitment at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In the live-action film adaptation, an additional backstory of her being a returnee student is included.
