A middle-aged male drug addict. He committed a bank robbery, killing three civilians, and fled. On December 20, 2003, during his escape, he hijacked a bus and demanded the previous day's earnings from the amusement park Spaceland as ransom, instructing a woman to bring it by car to the bus stop "Sunset Beach," two stops before Spaceland. However, this was an action manipulated by the Death Note as part of Light's strategy to learn Ray's name. Upon touching a piece of the notebook that Light had dropped, he noticed the Shinigami Ryuk in the back seat, panicked, and fired his gun wildly. After running out of bullets, he was hit by a car immediately after getting off the bus in an attempt to escape Ryuk, resulting in his death. The cause of death was processed as hallucinations due to drug intoxication, so it was not detected as a murder by Kira, but Naomi Misora suspected a connection. The notebook had pre-written, "He sees a terrifying phantom beyond this world, becomes delirious, fires his gun, and dies in an accident after stepping outside." In the manga, he uses a Colt Detective Special revolver, while in the anime and live-action film versions, he uses a Tokarev TT-1933 automatic pistol. In the live-action film, he is portrayed as a young man and demands the earnings from the Okugawa Depot of Kyonan Bus as ransom. In the drama version, the scene where he sees Ryuk is cut, and he commits suicide with a gun on the spot without getting off the bus.
