Sumire Motiki is a former underground idol who ends up bound for Antarctica after her aptitude as a Sanity Anchor is discovered.

Although she is not a frontline fighter, she plays a support role for investigators exploring the underground world known as Asylum.

At first, her goal is far from noble.

She wants to solve Randolph Syndrome, become a hero, raise her profile, and return to stardom as a top celebrity.

Because of that ambition, she is frustrated that she cannot serve as a combatant.

Her lack of resistance to Asylum prevents her from taking a battle role, which leaves her deeply dissatisfied with being support staff.

Sumire's motives may be selfish, but she is also hardworking and intelligent.

That mix makes her more than just an opportunist, giving her a sharp and determined edge.

In the early part of the anime, she keeps her distance from the rest of the squad.

She is especially harsh toward the new recruit, Daniel Shigure Kai.

Part of that hostility comes from jealousy.

Daniel joins with his own dream of becoming a hero and even manages to achieve decent results in his first mission, which stings Sumire given her own blocked ambitions.

As she gradually opens up, her tone becomes much more casual and natural.

In the anime, however, the implication is darker, as Sumire worries that footage may already exist and be circulating.

She becomes especially upset when people bring up the provocative image videos she released in the past.
