Haruka Nanase

The protagonist of this work. In the first season of the anime, he is a second-year student at Iwatobi High School, in the second season, he is a third-year student, and in the third season, he is a university student. He refers to himself as "ore." He is 175 cm tall, weighs 63 kg, and was born on June 30th, making him a Cancer. His best subjects are art and home economics, while his weakest subject is English (conversational English). He likes quirky mascots like Iwatobi-chan and Samezuka-chan. He is skilled with his hands and is good at cooking, sculpting, and drawing. However, although his running form is beautiful, he is slow. He is unsociable and acts at his own pace. He loves swimming and has a talent for competitive swimming, captivating people with his swimming. However, he has a unique perspective on "water" and is indifferent to times and victories.

Since his mother (voiced by Mayuno Yasokawa) accompanied his father on a solo assignment, he currently lives alone in a house. His childhood friends Makoto and Nagisa call him "Haru-chan" with the suffix "chan," which he dislikes. He quit the swimming club in his first year of middle school and distanced himself from competitive swimming, living a lethargic life with the resignation that "after 20, you're just an ordinary person." However, after reuniting with Nagisa, who had enrolled in Iwatobi High School in his second year, and Rin, who had returned from studying abroad, he returned to the world of competitive swimming.

Makoto says that he is so obsessed with "water" that he "can't live without it." In his daily life, he wears a swimsuit from morning and soaks in a cold bath, and he always wears a swimsuit instead of underwear, showing a peculiar obsession with "swimming." His hobby is soaking in water. He has a bad habit of stripping off his clothes without hesitation when he finds an opportunity or place to swim, and Makoto often stops him. He loves mackerel so much that he not only eats it with every meal but also tries to serve it as a snack with tea. On the other hand, he dislikes things that absorb moisture, like melon bread.

His specialty is freestyle, and he shows a strong commitment to swimming only freestyle. However, after the establishment of the swimming club, he also discovered the joy of swimming relays with his teammates through their bonds. His image is that of a dolphin, and he is praised for having an ideal muscular body for swimming. Although he is the fastest swimmer among the members, he is not suited to be the captain, so he serves as the vice-captain.

Due to his performance in the prefectural tournament in his third year, he received scouts from various universities and was expected to become a competitive swimmer, but he was unsure. However, just before the national tournament, when he went to Australia with Rin, he found a dream of wanting to swim on the world stage. For that dream, he decided to focus on times and victories, unlike before.

After graduation, he advances to Hidaka University in Tokyo. He competes in the individual medley at the university championships and faces off against Ikuya.
