Grimlock

Grimlock is a front-line player trapped in Sword Art Online alongside his wife, Griselda.

In the real world they are also married, and their relationship carries over into the virtual world, at least on the surface.

As the death game progresses, Griselda changes, becoming stronger, more independent, and more dedicated to life in the game.

Grimlock begins to harbor twisted feelings toward this new version of his wife, feelings closer to possessive jealousy than genuine affection.

Grimlock’s marriage to Griselda is the emotional core of his story.

Instead of supporting her growth, he becomes increasingly disturbed by how she is no longer the obedient partner he thought he owned.

This change leads him to confuse love with control.

His inability to accept Griselda as an independent person ultimately pushes him toward a horrifying decision: arranging her death.

Driven by his warped mindset, Grimlock secretly contacts the red player guild Laughing Coffin.

He commissions them to assassinate Griselda inside the game, turning his jealousy and possessiveness into a literal death sentence.

The killing is made to look like an in-game incident, leaving the remaining guild members shocked and confused.

For a long time, Grimlock successfully hides his involvement, letting the murder pass as a tragic mystery.

Later, two former guild members, Yolko and Caynz, begin investigating the circumstances of Griselda’s death.

Their attempts to uncover the truth threaten to expose Grimlock’s role in the earlier crime.

To erase all loose ends, Grimlock again turns to Laughing Coffin.

He arranges a plan to kill Yolko, Caynz, and Schmitt, another guild member who was emotionally shaken by Griselda’s death.

During this plot, Kazuto Kirigaya (Kirito), Asuna Yuuki, and their allies intervene.

They dismantle the staged “haunting” and protect the targets, ultimately causing Grimlock’s plan to fail.

After his scheme collapses, Grimlock is apprehended and confronted by his former comrades.

Yolko presents decisive evidence proving his connection to Griselda’s murder.

Faced with undeniable proof, Grimlock breaks down and confesses everything.

He admits to hiring Laughing Coffin first to kill his wife and later to eliminate those who were getting close to the truth.

Asuna Yuuki sharply criticizes him, pointing out that what he felt for Griselda was not love but mere possessive desire.

Her words force Grimlock—and everyone listening—to recognize how warped and selfish his motivations truly were.

Once his confession is complete, Grimlock is handed over to Yolko and the others.

They escort him away, effectively removing him from the front lines and ensuring he faces consequences within the world of Sword Art Online.
