Urd belongs to the Hill Giant tribe that inhabits the icy region of Jotunheimr.

Within this society she holds the title of “Lake Queen,” ruling over the sacred Lake of Urd.

She has two younger sisters, with whom she appears as a trio of powerful, goddess-like figures.

Her role is central to the quest “The Holy Sword of the Ice Palace,” in which players interact with her to obtain Excaliber.

Urd is described as towering at a height of about 3 meters.

She takes on the form of a beautiful woman with long blonde hair.

Her hair is not entirely human: the tips transform into semi-transparent tentacles, giving her an eerie, otherworldly aura.

Her hands and feet are covered in pearl-colored scales, emphasizing her connection to water and to her lake-dwelling retainers.

As the Lake Queen, Urd acts as a guardian of the Lake of Urd and of the creatures that serve her.

She carries herself with dignity and responsibility, especially when the existence of her retainers is threatened.

Despite facing a dire crisis, she remains composed enough to seek cooperation from human players.

Her willingness to entrust the fate of her domain to others shows both humility and faith in bonds beyond her own race.

Urd lives in Jotunheimr, a frigid underworld-like region beneath Alfheim.

She is a member of the Hill Giants, a faction distinct from the Frost Giants.

The crisis begins when Thrym, the king of the Frost Giants, schemes to cut Jotunheimr off from the blessing of the World Tree.

As a result of his plot, the divine power that sustains Urd and her domain begins to fade, pushing her to the brink of losing all her strength.

With the World Tree’s blessing severed, Urd’s authority over the lake and her own life force are in jeopardy.

Her retainers, including the flying whale Tonky, are also endangered as hostile forces encroach upon them.

To break Thrym’s scheme, Urd requests help from Kazuto Kirigaya (Kirito) and his party.

She chooses them specifically because they have formed a bond with Tonky, one of her beloved retainers.

Urd explains that the holy sword Excaliber has been thrown into the Lake of Urd.

Recovering it is the key to restoring the flow of power from the World Tree and saving Jotunheimr’s Hill Giants.

Kirito and his companions accept the quest to pull up Excaliber from the lake’s depths.

During this time, Urd’s retainers are being hunted, adding urgency to the mission.

Before her retainers can be wiped out, Kirito successfully secures Excaliber.

Urd then appears before him together with her two sisters, acknowledging their achievement.

As the quest reward, Urd formally grants Excaliber to Kirito.

This act symbolizes not only a quest completion but also a renewed bond between the human players and the Hill Giant Lake Queen.

Sisters

Urd has two younger sisters who share a divine or mythical presence similar to hers.

They appear alongside her at the end of the quest to witness and ratify the transfer of Excaliber.

Tonky

Tonky is a flying whale-like creature and one of Urd’s retainers.

The fact that Kirito’s party has bonded with Tonky is a major reason Urd chooses them as her champions.

Kirito and His Party

Urd interacts with Kirito and his allies as a quest-giver and benefactor.

She entrusts them with a critical mission, and in return, rewards them with one of the most powerful weapons in the game world.

Urd normally possesses strong powers linked to the Lake of Urd and the blessings of the World Tree.

However, Thrym’s interference severs this connection, reducing her to a weakened state.

At the time of the quest, she is close to losing all of her power, including her ability to protect her realm.

This vulnerability is what forces her to rely on external heroes, turning the quest into a race against time to restore her strength and save her retainers.
