Xia Mi

The Dragon Queen Jörmungandr was the sister of the Dragon king Fenrir and the weakest of the elemental Dragon Kings. As the stronger twin, Fenrir was cursed with a disability by Nidhogg that greatly limited his intelligence. Two thousand years after the fall of the Dragon Raja, Jörmungandr acquired a human form with the intention of learning about human nature.

She created a human identity and chose Xia Mi as her name. She would eventually claim to be a Chinese girl who was neglected by her parents, since they were too busy taking care of her mentally disabled brother. As a child, tired of taking care of him, Xia Mi lashed out at the boy and left him unattended on the street, where he was bullied by local kids. Her brother stood up and beat up his abusers, gaining his sister's admiration.

She took Fenrir to a Nibelungen in the Beijing subway, where he started to develop a Dragon body. Xia Mi remained in the surface living on her own, and in time, she became interested in the nature of romantic love, the one human feeling she couldn't comprehend.

Jörmungandr attended a local high school, as Xia Mi she had many suitors, but she rejected all of their marriage proposals. A teacher criticized her publicly for pointlessly teasing the boys at the school. Xia Mi disagreed with this sentiment, claiming that she wasn't "porridge to be served on a tray for everyone".

She took notice of Chu Zihang, a popular student who had earlier escaped the Dragon King Odin, and therefore, carried his brand. Xia Mi wanted to learn more about Odin's actions and decided to get close to Zihang, which proved difficult due to his anti-social personality.

Eventually, suffering from the effects of Blood Sorrow, Xia Mi found comfort in Zihang's company and slowly developed romantic feelings for him, which she still struggled to understand. Xia Mi would frequently watch Zihang play basketball alone, when the boy asked why she was cheering him by herself she'd angrily ask if she wasn't enough for him. The pair would frequently walk home from school, and she'd take him out on dates, all of which proved fruitless to gain his affection.

Xia Mi erased herself from his memories after each failed attempt, claiming that it wasn't good for him to remember her. Eventually, Zihang graduated and attended Cassell College, Xia Mi stayed in Beijing.

The Nibelungen Plan

Sensing the impending resurrection of Nidhogg, she realized that eating Fenrir would help her gain enough strength to prepare for the end of the world. Unwilling to kill her brother due to her love for him, she decided to leave that option as a last resource and instead consume the bones of Constantine, who's skeleton was kept by the Secret Party in Cassell College.

She attended Cassell's summer prep school and was accepted by the college as an A-Rank student, but her unusual blood analysis was added to the files of the Nibelungen Plan. Seeing her secret identity in danger, Xia Mi decided to take her file out of the envelope before it could reach the School Board. Raymond, the agent carrying the documents reunited with the school's S-Rank student Lu Mingfei at a train station, ready to entrust him with the files. Xia Mi asked Fenrir to start an earthquake that would destroy the train station. Raymond died under the rubble, and the envelope was stolen by Tang Wei, a criminal hired by Xia Mi.

She disguised herself as a certain fast food restaurant's mascot clown and visited Tang Wei, paying him for his services and taking her file out of the envelope. Much to her surprise, Chu Zihang immediately attacked the facility in search for the files. Xia Mi was surprised to see that he was using Blood Rage, a technique long forgotten. Controlling the security guards through Yanling and a small group of Death Servitors, she distracted Zihang and escaped.

Xia Mi arrived at the Chicago train station to take the CC1000 train, but the employees were in the middle of a strike. She waited for a day and found a soda machine where she managed to steal Coke by sneaking through the security metal bars. Chu Zihang and Lu Mingfei arrived hours later and found her on the roof, stealing sign blankets to build a shelter in the park. She slipped and Zihang catched her. When Mingfei decided to join her at the park, Zihang instead offered to pay for her hotel room, but she refused to abuse his generosity and demanded to share a room with them instead, seeing a new opportunity to seduce her old high school classmate.

After taking a shower, she attempted to introduce herself, only to learn that Zihang had already investigated her. She bonded with the pair through Mingfei's love for Japanese anime culture and Zihang's interest in theoretical Draconic sciences. Zihang started to feel attracted to her and shied away from looking at her face, instead staring towards Mingfei when they shared a bed, which made his classmate both uncomfortable and a little flustered.

Ferris wheel

Zihang took Xia Mi to an amusement park and they entered the Ferris wheel. She was disappointed to learn that he was taking her on a training exercise and not on a date. During their conversation, she shared with him the story of her childhood with her brother and asked him to learn how to live in the moment and appreciate the romantic things in life. They were joined by Lu Mingfei and Anjou, the principal of Cassell, who was so excited to share an evening with a young woman that he bought the entire group ice cream and took them on a roller coaster ride, much to Zihang's horror.

Having the principal and two of the top students next to her, Xia Mi decided to expose Zihang's use of Blood Rage to distract Cassell's administrators and test Anjou's skill by provoking a small earthquake in the middle of the rollercoaster ride. The incident was successful in forcing Zihang to reveal his secret technique, he managed to rescue everyone, nearly dying in the process. Xia Mi saved his life, catching him in the air with the help of her air-bending Yanling.

Zihang was put on trial for his use of Blood Rage. Xia Mi received special access permissions from Norma so she could access the infirmary and bring Zihang home-made soup. During these conversations, he realized that he had romantic feelings for her, in turn, she invited him to confess his love. In the meantime, she attended classes and joined the Freshmen Association.

Battle in the cellar

Taking advantage of Norma's permissions, she entered the Ice Cellar during Zihang's trial and attempted to consume Constantine's remains. She was promptly intercepted by three different parties. Finger Von Frings, working for Anjou, Parsi Gattuso, defending the interests of the Gattuso Family and Sakatoku Mai, a member of the Mingze Faction. She easily forced Finger and Parsi to escape, but Lu Mingze altered Mai's blood and controlled her body during the battle. Overwhelmed, Jörmungandr was forced to retreat, left with no other option than to consume her brother.

Mission to China

Arrival in Beijing

The College discovered Fenrir's presence in Beijing, and she was among the students sent to hunt him down. Xia Mi was assigned to join Caesar Gattuso's group. During the planning sessions, she ate cake and tried some of the Gear Department's gadgets, including a flamethrower lighter. She left the room as Susie arrived with the Blood Rage files for Caesar.

Once in Beijing, feeling sorry for Zihang, she visited him and Finger at their hotel to bring them food and tried to convince him of joining her and her family for dinner, so he wouldn't be present during her unavoidable resurrection as a Dragon. Despite accepting her offer, Zihang decided to follow Fenrir's trace instead.

Xia Mi quickly reached him in the subway and helped him fight a horde of Death Servitors by combining her wind skills with Zihang's to create a fire tornado. Zihang noticed that she was wearing slippers and offered to carry her through the railway tracks. Once they reached Fenrir's shelter, he immediately attacked the creature, blinding it and damaging its wings.

Death

To stop Zihang from slaying Fenrir, Xia Mi revealed her true identity as Jörmungandr. Zihang did everything in his power to strike her down, reaching the highest levels of Blood Rage and nearly turning into a Death Servitor. Jörmungandr melted the metal pieces around her and re-forged them into weapons, overwhelming Zihang and bringing him to his knees. She unlocked many of their high school memories together and explained her plans to consume Fenrir, which would result in the creation of a single being named Hela, who would unleash the undead in the world of the living.

Before she could kill him, Zihang wanted her to answer one last question, he wanted to know whether she was Xia Mi or Jörmungandr, to which she answered that she was the Dragon Queen Jörmungandr. Zihang took the Dragon-slaying sword of the Cassell Family and stabbed Jörmungandr in the back, destroying her body and killing her.

In her final moments, she pitied him one last time and gave him the key to her house, where the last traces of her made-up persona were left. Her spilled blood stabilized Zihang's, but it also kept her genes secured in his body as a method of resurrection, slowly mutating and preparing his body for her eventual takeover.

Aftermath

Jörmungandr's death sent Fenrir into a desperate rage, wanting revenge against the whole world, he started an extinction level Yanling that could destroy a big part of the city. Zihang couldn't defeat Fenrir on his own, nearly dying from the damage of the fight. Ultimately, the fusion of Lu Mingfei and Lu Mingze resulted in Fenrir's death. His remains would later be consumed by Odin.

On December of that year, Zihang visited Xia Mi's apartment and slept in her bed. In the following years, whenever he dreamt with her, she would experience the same dream.

Return

Two years after her death, Chu Zihang went on an expedition to Hyperborea on an icebreaker ship, where he met an old man named Macallan, who intended to feed unstable hybrids to Nidhogg's embryo, so he could consume it afterwards and become a god.

Macallan eventually took over the ship and the minds of its passengers. Zihang confronted him, but in the middle of their fight, Macallan invited Jörmungandr to help him defeat Nidhogg and rule by his side in the new world order. The Dragon Queen immediately took over Zihang's body and accepted the deal, crushing Zihang's heart and making a blood pact with Macallan, who was actually Odin, the Dragon King of Sky and Wind.

Reginleif, one of Zihang's allies on the ship intervened and faced them, trying to bring Zihang back. Odin subdued her with ease, and proposed to Jörmungandr that they killed her together, to signify their new rule. She attacked Odin instead for revealing Fenrir's location to the Secret Party.

Odin reversed time to fix his injury, but it weakened him substantially, allowing Jörmungandr to take the upper hand. She made a constant effort to keep Reginleif alive and well. Since Zihang promised to help Reginleif escape, Jormungandr felt obligated to fulfill that promise, Odin took advantage of the blood pact, which forbade them from killing each other, and pushed Jörmungandr off the ship, feeding her to Nidhogg.

Zihang's consciousness was trapped within a dream-like world that resembled his time in high school, where he was constantly visited by Xia Mi at the basketball court. Jörmungandr offered him a deal. He would obtain control of their shared body and complete access to her power in exchange for killing Odin. If he failed to return control to her, she would never let him see a vision of Xia Mi again. Despite being horrified by this, he instead accepted so he could have another chance to avenge his father. Zihang came back to life as the new Dragon King of Earth and Mountains.

During his fight with Odin, Zihang refused to cooperate with him against Nidhogg, due to his determination to have revenge. Odin in turn wondered why Jörmungandr fell in love with Zihang in the first place, and invoked his armor and horse to continue the fight. Ultimately, their encounter was interrupted by Nidhogg's awakening, prompting Odin to activate the "Oracle" Yanling to resist the Black Emperor's influence and modify the world's line of causality, creating a new world in which Zihang died at the age of 15.
