Reginleif

Reginleif is a 20 year old woman, very slim and with pale white skin, mostly the result of a lack of exposure to sunlight. Her hair is white, with silver-gray eyes. Her back has multiple scars.

She has developed a rebellious personality as a result of her repressive environment, and enjoys partying, drinking, dancing, flirting and having small affairs with the Yamal's passengers. She dreams of escaping her prison, so she can see the world and experience a true love affair, although her understanding of love is based on movies.

Background

Reginleif was created with genetic material taken from the original Maria of the Stars. She possesses Nidhogg's blood and she can theoretically evolve into a dragon herself. Her blood can stabilize unstable hybrids.

She was raised in the YAMAL and spent her entire life on the ship. No one was allowed to look at her, and she ate her meals on a small room behind the kitchen. She was Maria's favorite clone, who acted as a grandmother to Reginleif.

When she was in her teens, Vincent told her that Maria had died, but Reginleif could hear her crying through the ship's walls. Eventually she managed to find the coffin where Vincent trapped her to contain her mutations. Maria asked Reginleif to find a way to kill her.

When she was fourteen, she felt attracted to one of the young passengers of the ship and later sneaked into the boy's room. The rest of the Far North were so worried that she was granted one week of vacation per year, in which she was allowed to interact with the passengers and even have short romantic affairs with them.

Reginleif endured great amounts of abuse from her superiors, who whipped her back as punishment for rebellion. She tried to escape multiple times, even building a parachute with blankets. Whenever she convinced a passenger to help her, they always proved to be unreliable.

Cassell's mission

In 2024, two years after the defeat of Herzog, Chu Zihang infiltrated the Yamal, and sneaked into her room, hoping to find the original Maria of the Stars. He had a short fight with Reginleif, who decided to let him leave with the hopes of using him to escape later. Vincent gave her recordings of Xia Mi, and she studied them so she could imitate her mannerisms to manipulate Chu Zihang.

On Christmas night, she went out to dance with the rest of the passengers on a full bunny suit. She quickly stole the attention of all the male passengers, in particular a rich young man named Persson, whom she found attractive but boring. When the man got hostile after failing to get her attention, Zihang nailed his suit to a chair with a fork and a table knife. She asked Zihang to go to the helipad with her to avoid Vincent's vigilance. She offered to trade information about Hyperborea in exchange for Zihang helping her escape. Zihang requested her extraction to Cassell College.

Later that night, she was shown to the financiers of the Far North to prove her authenticity as a genetical recreation of the previous Maria, and was promptly punished by Vincent and her "sisters" Hervor and Olrune for sneaking out to talk with Chu Zihang. Intending to keep a facade of loyalty, Reginleif took the whip from Olrune's hands and whipped herself with it.

Hours later, Lady Cassandra, a potential buyer for a ticket to Hyperborea had a meeting with Vincent. He claimed that Reginleif was the original Maria of the Stars, and that she couldn't age, to demonstrate Reginleif's authenticity, Vincent shot a bullet to her head and waited for her to miraculously regenerate. In reality, Vincent shot an inactive clone, who was replaced by the real Reginleif while Cassandra was distracted. Hours later, she called Chu Zihang on the phone and sang him a song.

Macallan and the VIP passengers arrived hours later on the ship, he left a bohemian-style summer dress in Reginleif's room, reminiscent of Xia Mi's. Reginleif later saved Zihang from turning into a Death Servitor by letting him bite her wrist and drink her blood. Zihang clarified that her intent to seduce him so he would help her escape was not necessary, and he promised to free her without condition with the help of Cassell College.

Escape

The following day, Macallan unleashed his mind-altering Yanling, Saha World on the passengers of the ship, which sent them on a violent frenzy. Seeing the end of the Yamal near, Reginleif decided to escape the ship promptly. She waited in her room for Hervor and Olrune and unsuccessfully attempted to fight them both, but the pair was immobilized by Maria, whose mutated body had extended to every corner of the ship. Reginleif whipped her sisters as revenge, but let them live out of pity. Regardless, once Reginleif left the room, Maria sliced their necks.

Reginleif sneaked to Maria's chambers and defused the alchemical matrix that kept the iron coffin sealed, freeing her. Reginleif gave her a few drops of blood, rejuvenating her grandmother's face. Maria praised her granddaughter and encouraged her to ignore her feelings for Chu Zihang and let him die on the ship, leave it all behind and experience her own life. Maria intended to feed the ship to Nidhogg and detonate the nuclear reactor to kill the dragon, along with Vincent, Macallan and everyone else involved in her torment.

Reginleif managed to secure access to the helicopter, but there was no pilot inside, she still had the option to escape in a life boat, but she didn't want to leave without Chu Zihang, so she went back to threaten Macallan instead. She soon realized that something was wrong with Zihang, who's body was taken over by the Dragon Queen Jörmungandr.

Macallan ordered the passengers of the ship to attack Reginleif, who valiantly fought them off with her spear, but she was quickly brought down by Macallan, the true owner of the Yamal. Since Reginleif had Nidhogg's blood in her veins, she represented a threat to the Dragon Kings. Macallan invited Jörmungandr to kill Reginleif together, as a symbol of their alliance, and the start of their new rule. Realizing that Zihang's consciousness was trapped by Jörmungandr, Reginleif begged at Zihang's body to stop as it prepared to execute her, and the young man's sentience heard her.

Much to her surprise, Jörmungandr attacked Macallan instead, as revenge for the death of her brother Fenrir. Macallan even confessed to have consumed Fenrir's remains and they started fighting. The encounter knocked Reginleif unconscious, pitying her, the Dragon Queen left her in Sasha Rybalko's care, and they escaped the ship in Macallan's helicopter.

Aftermath

The fight in the Yamal resulted in the awakening of Nidhogg, which kickstarted an apocalyptic event. Macallan decided to alter the past, creating a world in which everyone believes that Chu Zihang died at the age of fifteen. It is unknown what Reginleif's situation is in the modified timeline.
