He's the tallest ace spiker in the prefecture although he started playing volleyball in high school and is still a beginner, particularly weak at receiving. Initially thought volleyball was 'simple' due to the advantage of height but changed his mind after playing against Karasuno High School, facing spikers like Hinata who could spike over him using skill, and experiencing their strategic defense and versatile attacks. Described by Coach Ukai of Karasuno as a "scary player in the coming years."

Selected for the prefectural first-year select training camp but struggled to keep up due to his beginner status, leading to self-loathing after suggesting that Hinata, who ended up collecting balls, might have been a better pick. However, after a lecture from Hinata and receiving some 2-on-2 play tips, he regained some confidence.

After graduating from high school, he joined the Division 1 team Dainippon Denryoku Warriors as a middle blocker. He has also been selected for the Japanese national team in the Tokyo Olympics.
