Amane is the only third-year student at Mihama Academy.

Because she took a year off from school, she is older than the other students and naturally falls into an older-sister role.

She is cheerful, reliable, and highly sociable, with a nurturing personality that makes her feel like the dorm’s caretaker.

At the same time, she is fully aware of her exceptional looks and often leans into an intentionally provocative, flirtatious image.

Amane likes dressing in revealing clothes and playing up the role of a “sexy older girl.”

She is unfazed by dirty jokes, difficult to embarrass, and even being seen naked does not rattle her.

Her outgoing charm has made her something of an idol in the local shopping district.

She is also the most knowledgeable student when it comes to fashion and makeup, earning the nickname “pioneer of beauty.”

At one point, she even opened a beauty school inside the dorm for the other students.

Although she is widely seen, including by herself, as the school’s resident “bitch” character, she is actually a virgin.

She enjoys reading a magazine aimed at assertive, predatory women called Tiger Girl.

Sachi Komine mockingly refers to it as an erotic magazine.

Amane is tall, voluptuous, and very conscious of her own sex appeal.

Her most unusual fashion quirk is wearing loafers with bare feet.

She also styles both sides of her hair into curled sections tied with small ribbons.

In earlier years, however, she looked very different.

During her time at a girls’ school, she wore glasses and had a much plainer hairstyle and overall appearance.

Her eyesight is poor, and she now uses contact lenses.

Amane is warm, dependable, and easy to get along with.

Among the Mihama students, she appears the most socially normal and emotionally open on the surface.

She is especially caring toward those who struggle with everyday life.

Makina Irisu, whose life skills are notably weak, is treated almost like a child under Amane’s care.

Makina is very attached to her, and the two often sleep together in Amane’s bed.

Her mother was from Kyoto, and when Amane gets flustered or excited, traces of Kyoto-style speech slip out.

She is generally gentle and calm, but she has a very different side when driving.

If someone provokes or tailgates her, her personality flips and she becomes aggressive and reckless behind the wheel.

Amane comes from a family that runs a traditional Kyoto-style restaurant in Kanda.

Because of this upbringing, she is an excellent cook and has the strongest homemaking ability among the dorm residents.

As the oldest student, she effectively acts as the dorm mother.

She frequently cooks for others and handles many practical household matters.

She is also highly skilled in beauty, fashion, and cosmetics.

Her confidence and communication skills let her quickly win over people wherever she goes.

After transferring to Mihama Academy, she built friendly ties with local residents in only about a week.

By making the most of her charm and appearance, she often receives discounts and extra service from the shopping district.

Academically, however, she is below average.

Her school performance is described as slightly under the middle range.

Amane loves vehicles of all kinds, a trait inherited from her father, who was both a former delinquent and a street racer.

She says that if it has wheels, she can basically drive it, including cars, motorcycles, and even tractors.

She holds a standard automobile license and a standard motorcycle license.

Because her family restaurant sometimes uses houseboats, she also has a first-class small boat license.

She does not yet have an aircraft license, but she has considered getting one.

Her personal bike is a 250cc off-road motorcycle remodeled into a bobber called Bob Taro.

She arrived at Mihama Academy on this bike when she transferred in.

Because of that entrance, Chizuru Tachibana mistakenly thought she was part of a biker gang.

The motorcycle is currently kept in the dorm bicycle parking area.

Amane inherited her father’s driving techniques, but her style is extremely rough and dangerous.

Michiru Matsushima in particular hates riding with her because of how recklessly she drives.

Ironically, despite loving to operate vehicles herself, Amane is uncomfortable riding in cars driven by other people due to past trauma.

Amane previously attended a girls’ school called Takizono Academy.

There, she used her height to play on the basketball team.

Kazuki Kazami, Yūji Kazami’s older sister, was in the same year and on the same team.

Even so, Amane avoided her because she sensed a strange, intimidating aura around Kazuki.

Until the accident that changed everything, the two had never really spoken.

Before that point, Amane had lived a mostly ordinary and loving life.

She came from a fairly well-off but normal household and grew up surrounded by family affection.

That ordinary life lasted until the summer of her first year of middle school.

Six years before the events of The Fruit of Grisaia, Amane was involved in the Takizono Academy minibus cliff accident.

The bus carrying the basketball team plunged off a cliff, leaving the students stranded in a forest.

At first, the survivors believed rescue would come soon.

But hope faded as rescue efforts failed, escape attempts broke down, food ran out, and the injured died one after another.

During this ordeal, the person who supported Amane most was Kazuki Kazami.

Amane gradually formed a deep bond with her and became emotionally dependent on her presence.

Kazuki came to regard Amane as a close friend.

She even promised that one day she would introduce Amane to her younger brother, Yūji Kazami.

As conditions became more desperate, the survivors were eventually driven to cannibalism.

Some of them called the flesh they prepared “venison.”

On the fifteenth day after the crash, the others ate that so-called meat.

Kazuki distrusted it and refused to touch it, and Amane followed her lead and did not eat it either.

Before dawn that night, Kazuki led Amane away from the crash site in an escape attempt.

During their flight, Amane learned the horrifying truth: the “venison” was the flesh of dead teammates.

Once the others realized that Kazuki and Amane had not crossed the same line, they turned on them.

The group, having lost all restraint, pursued them and tried to kill them.

Kazuki chose to act as a decoy so Amane could escape.

Using supplies and plans Kazuki had prepared in advance, Amane wandered for several more days and eventually reached civilization.

She was found after desperately eating cabbages from a farm field and was taken into protection by a local farmer.

In the end, she became the only survivor of the accident.

Amane did not emerge from the accident as a celebrated miracle survivor.

Instead, cruel people stigmatized her as a girl who survived by sacrificing her companions.

She somehow finished middle school, but her emotional wounds remained severe.

She carried intense survivor’s guilt and believed she had no right to be happy.

Whenever she felt peace or comfort, she would experience pain and self-reproach.

Her need for atonement became a defining force in her life.

Her first attempt at high school life collapsed in less than a year.

After a year of treatment and recuperation, she concluded that the wounds she received at school could only be healed at school.

She then persuaded her parents by giving them the Mihama Academy brochure and transferred there one year before the main story begins.

Her deeply excessive devotion to Yūji later stems from this same guilt.

Because she believes she took Kazuki away from him, she tries to care for him in her place.

Her self-sacrificing behavior is therefore both kindness and a distorted attempt to save herself through penance.

The text also states that Amane developed schizophrenia after the incident.

Her body also changed afterward, with a major increase in bust size and a tendency to gain weight more easily.

She is self-conscious about this and makes aerobic exercise a regular part of her routine.

Although naturally curvy, she actively works to maintain her figure.

Because Kazuki had told her about her younger brother, Amane already knew of Yūji Kazami before he arrived at Mihama Academy.

From the very beginning, she acts unusually affectionate and attentive toward him.

Her behavior goes beyond ordinary kindness.

She not only fusses over him constantly but is even shown smelling his bed and reacting in an openly perverse way.

At first, her attachment is tied to guilt over failing to save Kazuki.

She wants to offer Yūji love and care as a substitute for the sister he lost.

In Amane’s route in The Fruit of Grisaia, this guilt-driven affection gradually becomes genuine romantic love.

She starts to fear that if she allows herself to become happy, then her suffering can no longer count as punishment.

Eventually, she confesses to Yūji that she was one of the people involved in the Takizono Academy bus accident.

She then asks him to kill her.

Yūji refuses and instead declares that he will take ownership of her life.

He orders her to live for him from that point on and to remain by his side forever as her punishment.

In Amane’s after story in The Labyrinth of Grisaia, she uses her forceful nature and excellent home cooking to successfully win Yūji over in daily life.

Though she still carries sorrow over the past, she focuses on moving forward together with him.

She also repeatedly schemes to have Yūji formally greet her family.

Her domestic confidence and boldness remain very much intact.

Amane’s code name during the operation to recover Yūji Kazami is Bitch, a label she openly embraces as part of her character.

Her image plant in official illustrations is the cherry in The Fruit of Grisaia and the camellia in The Labyrinth of Grisaia.

Despite her provocative image and teasing confidence, much of her behavior hides deep emotional damage.

This contrast between glamorous sensuality, maternal warmth, and profound trauma is one of her defining features.

The text also notes that she is an extreme masochist.

Verbal humiliation and sadomasochistic play do not disturb her and may even appeal to her.

It is suggested that Kazuki chose Amane as her partner during the survival ordeal partly because she recognized this side of her temperament.

The same source claims this is one reason Amane is sexually compatible with the similarly sadistic Yūji.
