Yuria Harudera is a blonde woman of German and Italian parentage, born to a German father and an Italian mother.

Her original name was Julia Bardera, and she later became a naturalized Japanese citizen for work-related reasons, taking her current name.

Among close acquaintances, she is usually called JB, a nickname given by Asako Kusakabe from the initials of her former name.

She is a multilingual speaker and is especially noted for her fluent Japanese, which only adds to her air of mystery.

She works at Ichigaya as the head of the CIRS intelligence office.

She is also Yūji Kazami’s guarantor, his adoptive mother in the family registry, and his direct superior in the organization known simply as the Company.

Yuria is a tall woman with voluminous blonde hair and a beauty mark beneath her left eye.

Yūji and Asako often tease her by calling her hairstyle a shaggy blonde mess.

She has one of the most striking figures in the series and is described as having the largest bust among the main cast.

Her glamorous appearance comes from her mother’s side, but her personality is said to resemble her German father’s: serious, disciplined, and fundamentally dutiful.

Unlike Asako, who excelled as a combat specialist, Yuria is an information specialist.

She is a strict and loyal military officer who possesses numerous bargaining chips, including scandals involving high-ranking officials and bureaucrats.

In everyday life, she trades jokes, complaints, and sharp remarks with Yūji.

When acting in her official role, however, her expression and tone become cold and severe in an instant.

Yuria lives in a high-ranking officials’ apartment building on a hill lined with cherry trees, where an airline hotel can be seen from Roppongi Street.

Her car is a yellow Ferrari 360 Modena, bought new.

Her public-facing occupation is listed as Public Relations Chief at a cleaning company.

Because that title hardly seems capable of supporting a supercar, the students of Mihama Academy become suspicious of her.

Her native-level Japanese despite being visibly foreign makes her seem even more suspicious to them.

This contrast is part of what gives her such a memorable presence.

Yuria has a long and complicated relationship with Yūji.

She is his superior in the Company, his legal guarantor, and his adoptive mother in official documents.

After Asako’s death, Yūji inherited the ace designation I-9029.

Yuria had to deal with his unreasonable demands while also managing the emotional fallout of his mentor’s death.

When Yūji fell into apathy after Asako died, Yuria took him into the apartment where she lived.

That is how she came to become his guarantor and adoptive mother.

To Yūji, she is fundamentally both a superior officer and the beloved friend of Asako who remained behind.

Their relationship also became romantic and sexual for a time, and Yūji was revealed to be her first partner.

After Asako’s death, the two briefly lived together as a couple.

However, Yuria could no longer bear living with a Yūji who was constantly chasing Asako’s shadow, and the shared arrangement ended.

Afterward, they settled into a relationship defined by neither full closeness nor total distance.

Kazuki Kazami later remarks that this in-between state is probably the most comfortable one for both of them.

Yuria and Asako Kusakabe were the same age and first met at an American orphanage when they were eight years old.

They remained inseparable from that point onward.

The two later entered a naval preparatory school together.

After passing the officer candidate screening process, Yuria advanced into the military operations department’s intelligence section as an officer candidate.

Even then, she was assigned to handle Asako specifically.

Their bond became a lifelong mix of irritation, responsibility, friendship, and loyalty.

Asako often acted recklessly, and Yuria constantly found herself cleaning up after her while complaining all the way.

Even so, they were best friends bound by an old and unbreakable connection.

When Asako took Yūji in, one of the conditions was that Yuria would supervise the arrangement.

This left Yuria once again dealing with the consequences of Asako’s larger-than-life choices.

The organization called Ichigaya, where Yūji and Yuria belong, is actually an intelligence agency that should not officially exist in Japan.

Its full name is Central Intelligence and Research Second, abbreviated as CIRS.

CIRS is a joint Japanese-American anti-terror organization.

It eliminates domestic threats in Japan by any means necessary, legal or illegal.

Its members hold ranks similar to those in the Self-Defense Forces.

Yuria holds the rank corresponding to Third Lieutenant Colonel class, or military officer grade three.

Rather than operating directly in the field, she works from headquarters.

There she serves as the protection and control officer for specially numbered operatives, including Asako Kusakabe and Yūji Kazami.

Yūji, designated I-9029, is described as an exceptionally capable national defense asset.

Managing him, especially after Asako’s death, becomes one of Yuria’s greatest burdens.

After the ending of The Labyrinth of Grisaia and The Eden of Grisaia, Yuria leaves CIRS.

She then becomes the school nurse at the new Mihama Academy established on Grisaia Island.

This marks a major change in her life, moving away from intelligence work toward a more peaceful role.

Even so, she remains unmistakably herself: sharp, capable, and impossible to overlook.

Yuria appears in The Fruit of Grisaia and also in its sequels The Labyrinth of Grisaia and The Eden of Grisaia.
