Hitsugi is one of the three elite assassins known as the Naraku Three Crows. He is a very large man with daggers on the backs of his hands. He first appears during the Silver Soul Arc, showing up on Earth with Utsuro. Like other warriors from the Naraku group, he gains temporary immortality through Utsuro’s blood, which he uses to stand up against Gintoki Sakata. Two years later, even though his body is falling apart due to the end of the blood’s power, he still leads the Naraku survivors and shows strong loyalty to Utsuro. In the anime, Hitsugi originally had no speaking lines, but in the Gintama THE FINAL movie, he was given lines and a voice actor for the first time.
Hitsugi is a very big man, easily standing out due to his tall and strong build. He wears bandages, and his main weapons are a pair of short swords attached to the backs of his hands. The Fight with Sadaharu
Later Hitsugi tries to finish off the wounded Sadaharu, but Gintoki attacks from behind with a sword made of Altana crystal. Hitsugi loses one of his arms in this battle. Afterwards, his whereabouts are unknown for a while.
Two Years Later: The Broken Man Returns
Two years after the main conflict, Hitsugi returns around the Shoka Sonjuku on Earth. He is leading the remaining Naraku members and his own body is in terrible shape. His face is covered in bandages, and he has lost his left arm and left leg, moving with a crutch because both are badly damaged.
Pursuing Gintoki and the Heart of Utsuro
Hitsugi, acting under orders from the Tendoshu, is still determined to retrieve Utsuro’s heart. He follows Gintoki, who carries the heart, to the Terminal and the Seibo Church mothership, clashing with Gintoki and Kotarou Katsura.
The Final Choice
In a fight with Katsura, he threatens him with a sword, but instead of attacking Katsura, Hitsugi stabs Utsuro’s heart and throws it away. The heart is swallowed by the dragon vein deep inside the Terminal and vanishes forever.
His True Purpose
Hitsugi, whose flesh is rotting and who cannot die because of Utsuro’s blood, understands a part of Utsuro’s endless pain. He wants to free Utsuro from the curse of immortality by ending his life, something no one else could do.
The End
With his task finished, Hitsugi uses up the last of Utsuro’s blood. He dies, hoping that Utsuro can finally have a peaceful death like a normal person.
