An elderly second-class male wizard who originally belonged to the military and is also a cunning court wizard who has survived fierce power struggles. He was widowed by his wife Lectüre in his mid-twenties and has no children.

As a child, he learned magic under Mahato in the Golden Land. He aspired to be a wizard, admiring Frieren, and his views on magic were similar to hers. Although he had never met Frieren in person, he recognized her true identity during the first-class wizard's preliminary exam and boldly challenged her to a fight. He was no match for Frieren, but he is actually a skilled magician worthy of being a first-class wizard. He is always calm and values cooperation, and while he is insightful and scheming, he also has a fiery and muddy side, fighting like a young man when his magic power runs out. He doted on Laufen like a grandson, went to encourage Richter who had dropped out of the exam, and maintained relationships with his former party members after the exam. He passed the third exam and became a first-class wizard as announced by Serie.

In his youth, he once served in the court with Lernen. His hometown village is in the northern highlands, but it was swallowed by the Golden Land due to Mahato's magic, and he took over the job of managing the great barrier of the Golden Land from Lernen. Armed with the curse-reversing magic (Misteilgeela) bestowed by Serie as a "privilege," he ends up fighting his former master, Mahato. After various twists and turns, he is temporarily turned into gold, but is revived by Frieren's power, withstands Mahato's fierce attacks, and manages to bring about a mutual defeat by releasing a high-compression Zoltrark. Despite his severe injuries, he musters his strength and finishes off the dying Mahato.
