Yuno Gasai's adoptive mother was born into a prestigious family of elite bankers who managed the Gasai Bank. Unable to conceive a child, she and her husband adopted Yuno from the Misaka Children's Foster Home.
She strictly monitored Yuno’s behavior, recording everything she did. If Yuno broke any rules, her adoptive mother would lock her in a cage, deprive her of food, and not allow her to use the bathroom—subjecting her to excessive "elite education" that amounted to confinement and abuse.
When Yuno was in her first year of middle school, she could no longer endure the harsh treatment and imprisoned her adoptive mother in the cage instead. However, her adoptive mother showed no remorse, constantly berating Yuno as an "abomination." Ultimately, she died of starvation.
