Shiki Kijima is a man whose entire body, including his face, is covered in rough stitches, giving him the unsettling look of a poorly-made doll. He stands at 157 cm and weighs 66 kg. His macabre appearance reflects the numerous injuries he has suffered, particularly his artificial right leg and his heavily scarred face.

Kijima is infamous for his brutal and sadistic tendencies, holding no qualms about using extreme and inhuman methods to accomplish his goals. Yet, he is also extremely polite, always using honorific speech, even toward subordinates and younger investigators. This strict adherence to etiquette, even in violence, creates a jarring and memorable contrast. He also displays a certain thoughtfulness towards Nimura Furuta, his partner.

Previously, Kijima served as an interrogator in the ghoul detention center known as Cochlea and was once the direct superior of Nimura Furuta. During a fight with the ghoul known as "Jail," he lost many subordinates and suffered injuries that cost him both his right leg and part of his face. This trauma further pushed him toward conducting violent interrogations, gaining the nickname "The Flayer Kijima."

Despite his physical handicap—he uses a prosthetic leg—Kijima possesses combat abilities that far surpass ordinary investigators. Even average ghouls can barely stand against him.

Quinque

• Rotten Follow (Koukaku type, S rate):

A chainsaw-shaped quinque with immense offensive power. Kijima wields it with terrifying force, reminiscent of a horror movie villain. Ironically, this weapon ultimately leads to his own death.

Kijima stands out in how he maintains respect toward colleagues, civilians, and even ghouls. His relationship with Nimura Furuta is particularly notable; he not only works with but also looks out for Furuta.

Shiki Kijima makes his main-series debut as the leader of his own squad. Originally conceived for the "Tokyo Ghoul JAIL" video game, he is written into "Tokyo Ghoul:re" during the Rose investigation arc.

The Rose Investigation

Seeking information about "Rose," Kijima orchestrates a bold strategy, using Nimura Furuta as bait. He captures Yuuma, a servant of the Tsukiyama family, subjecting him to intense torture and releasing the footage online to lure out more targets.

Exposing Tsukiyama Family

Kijima furthers the operation by using himself as bait, which leads to the capture of Yuuma’s lover, Ariza. Through these events and his unorthodox tactics, he deduces that the powerful "Tsukiyama Group" is the true force behind "Rose."

However, Koori Ui, a fellow investigator, takes issue with Kijima’s methods, criticizing him for his insanity and lack of restraint.

The Battle at Tsukiyama Family

During the S-Rated Tsukiyama Extermination Operation, Kijima teams up with Hairu Ihei and others to confront Matsumae and Mairo. Although he nearly defeats Matsumae, Mairo’s interference gives Matsumae an opening. She slices off Kijima's right arm and then turns his own Rotten Follow quinque against him, killing him by impaling him through the head.

Even with his menacing attitude and grim profession, Shiki Kijima has been portrayed with a touch of humor in supplementary manga, such as accidentally forgetting his prosthetic leg and dozing off on the job.
