Seita is an 8-year-old orphan who became a pickpocket in order to save up money to "buy" his mother, Hinowa, from the Yoshiwara district. After being caught by Gintoki Sakata, Seita's life began to change, leading him to work at Otose's shop and eventually learning the truth about his family. Despite facing hardship and learning that Hinowa wasn't his birth mother, Seita chose to stay by her side, forming a new, loving family.
Seita is a small boy with a height of 133 cm and a weight of 21 kg. He looks just like a typical child, and his appearance is cute and innocent.
Seita is clever and mature for his age, a result of growing up as an orphan and taking care of himself. He is also brave and stubborn, especially when it comes to protecting the people he loves. But deep down, he is fun-loving and gets excited about things like festivals, chocolate, and swimming pools, just like any other kid his age.
Seita lost both his parents and was raised by an old man who also passed away. With nowhere to go, Seita started pickpocketing to collect money, dreaming of buying his mother Hinowa's freedom from Yoshiwara, where she worked as a courtesan. He picked Gintoki Sakata's pocket and was caught, changing the course of his life.
Seita lived alone for a long time, so he learned to take care of himself. He’s good enough in the kitchen to make sandwiches and can work at a shop. He’s also quick and sneaky, skills picked up from his days as a pickpocket.
Seita saw Hinowa as his mother, even after learning she wasn’t his birth mother. He also lives with her and Tsukuyo, becoming like a real family.
He calls Tsukuyo "Tsukuyo sis," Shinpachi Shimura "Shin big brother," and Ayame Sarutobi "Sassan." Seita goes to school now, has made friends, and can often be found playing with them.
Living as an Orphan in Yoshiwara
Seita became an orphan after the old man who raised him died. With no one to turn to, he started picking pockets to save up enough money to buy Hinowa, whom he believed was his real mother, from the pleasure district of Yoshiwara.
Meeting Gintoki and Starting Over
When Seita stole Gintoki Sakata’s wallet, he was caught. Taken to Otose’s snack bar, Seita explained his story and, with Otose’s encouragement, started working there to earn money in a better way.
Learning the Truth and Accepting It
During the Yoshiwara arc, Seita learns from Housen that Hinowa is not his biological mother. Even so, Seita’s feelings did not change, and he was determined to save her. With support from Gintoki and others, Seita finally got to reunite with Hinowa as mother and son.
Building a New Life
After Housen was defeated, Seita moved into Yoshiwara and began living happily with Hinowa and Tsukuyo. He started attending a terakoya (elementary school) outside Yoshiwara and made new friends, joining them on adventures like insect collecting and fireworks.
Everyday Fun
Hinowa cares deeply for Seita, making him big boxed lunches every day when he started school. Seita was shy about this at first, eating by himself to keep it secret, but soon he made friends to share these moments with. Seita gets excited about regular kid things, like getting treats or playing at the pool.
Seita is one of the few "normal" child characters in *Gintama*, where most other characters are adults.
He now works at Otose's shop—an "adult" toy store, according to Gintoki Sakata.
Seita is sometimes a bit mature for his age, like wanting to impress cute classmates with homemade lunches or rushing to see girls in swimsuits.
