Bad is an S-Class hero whose simple, bat-based brawling style and limitless “fighting spirit” make him one of the most dangerous close-combat fighters in the series.
He was one of the heroes whose existence prompted the Hero Association to create the special S-Class rank above A–C Class.
He originally belonged to the Hero Association, but later transfers to the Neo Heroes and becomes a Neo Leader.
In the remake manga, his real name is explicitly given as “Bad,” and this was later adopted into the original webcomic as well.
Bad has a classic delinquent look with a sharply styled pompadour.
In his Hero Association days he typically wore a plain long-sleeved shirt, and as a C-Class hero he often operated in a hoodie.
In the remake, he wears a modified school uniform jacket reminiscent of an old-school street delinquent.
His standard combat gear is always the same: a single metal baseball bat carried in his hand.
When shown with his family, his everyday clothes are simple, but the pompadour and tough aura never change.
His delinquent fashion contrasts humorously with his responsibilities as an older brother and pet owner.
On the surface, Bad looks like a violent, hot-tempered brawler who settles problems with his bat.
He talks rough and gets irritated easily, especially by rude or inconsiderate people.
However, he is deeply devoted to his younger sister Zenko and is extremely protective of her.
He has promised her that he will not show any violence in front of her, and he strictly honors that promise.
He also cares for his pet cat Tama and the kittens Tama gives birth to, showing a soft spot for family and animals.
Despite his delinquent vibe, he dislikes bullying, extortion, and “hero hunting,” and he has a strong sense of old-school honor similar to a traditional neighborhood boss.
He hates ill-mannered behavior, as seen when he repeatedly warns Waganma, a corporate executive’s spoiled son, not to put plates back on the conveyor belt at the “Mouse Sushi” chain restaurant.
When Waganma keeps ignoring him, Bad’s patience runs out and he openly loses his temper, even though Waganma is technically a protected VIP.
Bad takes his hero job seriously.
Even when Zenko has a piano recital or his cat is about to give birth, he rushes off to complete hero missions once duty calls.
He respects people who shoulder responsibility.
When a group of disheartened C-Class heroes lose their confidence, he fires them up by saying that a man shows his greatest strength when it’s time to settle accounts.
Among Hero Association staff, he is one of the few who shows clear respect to Sekingar, who once gave a memorable speech about the risks of hero work.
Although he is not very educated and even fails to recognize famous figures like Shibabawa at first, his instincts and street sense are exceptionally sharp.
Bad lives with his younger sister Zenko.
Zenko resembles him in facial features and has a strong-willed personality, but she is more composed and disciplined.
Zenko plays the piano and is apparently quite skilled, as implied by Bad’s comments and her recital scenes.
Their sibling relationship is close, and Fubuki even feels jealous of how well they get along, especially compared to her own strained relationship with her older sister Terrible Tornado.
The siblings also have a pet cat named Tama, and later a litter of kittens born from Tama.
Bad is shown hurrying between hero duties and being there for the cat’s delivery, underlining how seriously he takes his family responsibilities.
Bad started out as a C-Class hero, ranked 223.
Even at that stage, he was already capable of defeating Demon-level monsters on his own.
As he accumulated feats, he was promoted all the way to S-Class, initially listed as Rank 15 and later appearing as Rank 16.
His raw combat power, resilience, and potential growth in battle made him a natural fit for S-Class.
When he became S-Class, the Hero Association offered to equip him with special gear.
Instead of advanced weapons or armor, he requested only “a super tough metal bat,” which they had custom-made for him.
Later, he is scouted by the Neo Heroes, a new organization that emerges as an alternative to the Hero Association.
What convinces him to switch sides is not money or glory, but the promise that the Neo Heroes will guard his home while he is away and take care of his cats.
After transferring, he becomes a Neo Leader, a high-ranking combat leader within the Neo Heroes.
His Neo Leader debut mission has him effortlessly defeating monsters, proving that his move to the new organization has done nothing to dull his edge.
During his Neo Leader debut, Bad exterminates a monster and then hears reports that other Neo Leaders are struggling in their respective battles.
He immediately heads out to support them, showing his willingness to back up his peers.
On the way, he spots Elimin and Destrochloridium transporting Zeidatts and Infercineve (two fellow Neo Heroes) somewhere.
He notices that Zeidatts and Infercineve look strangely lifeless and lacking in spirit, which strikes him as deeply suspicious.
Bad confronts Elimin and Destrochloridium, demanding an explanation.
They respond by explaining the Neo Heroes’ advanced medical technology and guide him toward a so-called “recovery chamber.”
Instead of medical care, however, he is suddenly attacked by Marsleo and Cocou.
Bad initially tells them to stop, still trying to avoid needless fighting with his own organization’s members.
Once he realizes there is an explicit kill order against him, he mentally “switches gears” and decides there is no reason to hold back.
He then squares off seriously against Destrochloridium and Elimin, prepared to crush them if necessary.
Bad’s combat style is simple and brutally efficient: close-range brawling with a metal bat and insane toughness.
He defends, attacks, and even counters projectiles using only his bat and his own body.
Even without any formal martial arts training, his combat intuition is outstanding.
He reads opponents quickly in battle and pinpoints weaknesses at high speed, allowing him to dismantle monsters that look far more “technical” than he is.
His physical capabilities are far beyond ordinary humans.
He has the power to kick away a crane truck, endure large-scale area-of-effect attacks from monsters like Elder Centipede, and keep moving after massive damage.
Bad can also fight hand-to-hand when disarmed, though he clearly prefers his bat.
He cares little about the specific design of his weapon, as long as it is durable enough to keep swinging.
Within the context of the Hero Association’s standards, his normal power already meets or exceeds the threshold of a single military division.
This alone qualifies him for S-Class, even before factoring in his true specialty: his limitless “fighting spirit.”
Fighting Spirit (“Guts”)
Bad’s defining trait is his extraordinary “fighting spirit,” a kind of battle mindset that directly amplifies his physical performance.
The more injured and cornered he becomes, the stronger and more ferocious he grows.
Severe blood loss, multiple fractures, and overwhelming odds do not cause him to retreat.
Instead, his willpower overrides pain and fatigue, and his speed, power, and killing intent all spike upward.
This ability allows him to shake off mental and physical interference that would incapacitate others.
For example, he breaks free from powerful hypnosis and mind tricks simply by “getting more fired up,” instantly turning the tide and smashing two Demon-level monsters with a single blow each.
He has casually endured a large amount of tranquilizer meant for huge animals.
In an extreme state of damage during his fight with Garou, his bat strikes become so heavy that even when Garou uses Flowing Water Rock Smashing Fist to deflect the attacks, the shock still reaches Garou’s bones.
When he slams the ground, the force propagates so far that buildings down the line crack, and parked cars in the vicinity are bounced into the air.
Even “pulled punches” create shockwaves strong enough to damage the road surface.
At its highest known intensity, his fighting spirit allows him to damage a monster whose threat is beyond Dragon level, categorized as “unknown disaster level.”
When he pairs up with someone whose power has a similar “escalation” nature, their forces resonate and massively boost one another, causing both fighters’ combat power to explode upward.
Weapons
Hero Association Bat
As a C-Class hero, Bad used a normal, commercially available metal bat.
However, that bat broke repeatedly every time he defeated strong monsters.
Upon his promotion to S-Class, the Hero Association offered him access to specialized equipment.
He requested a single, “incredibly sturdy metal bat,” favoring durability over gimmicks.
The resulting custom bat is tough enough that it does not break, no matter how intense the battle.
This weapon became his trademark and the symbol of his hero identity.
Neo Heroes Bat
After joining the Neo Heroes, Bad receives a new bat issued by the organization.
This Neo Heroes bat comes packed with features such as retractable spikes and the ability to emit electrical shocks.
Bad, however, finds these add-ons unnecessary and distracting.
For him, the only important property is durability—if it does not break and it hits hard, that is enough.
Notable Feats
Bad has defeated multiple Demon-level monsters solo, including while he was still in C-Class.
He has withstood brutal battles with monsters and martial artists that have crushed other heroes, often with minimal visible damage.
In the fight against Melzargard, a multi-core alien monster who instantly maims Iaian, Bad participates alongside other S-Class heroes.
Despite the threat level, he emerges without serious injury, showing how high his base-level combat power is, even without his fighting spirit pushed to its maximum.
During his encounters with the centipede line of monsters—Junior Centipede, Senior Centipede, Elder Centipede, and finally Elder Centipede in his highest form as Elder Centipede (Centipede Sage/Elder Centipede)—he repeatedly plays a key role.
In the final confrontation, his power escalates so far that, combined with a comrade’s similar “escalation-type” strength, he is able to crack Elder Centipede’s overwhelming exoskeleton.
Even though his style looks like “just swinging a bat,” several of Bad’s attacks are named and carry distinct flavors.
They become far more devastating when powered by his fighting spirit.
Spirit Dragon Beating (Kiai Dragon Shibaki)
Bad relentlessly slams his bat into the opponent over and over.
It is a brutal combo where he simply overwhelms the target with an unbroken chain of blows, gradually smashing them to pieces.
Spirit Savage Tornado (Kiai Yaban Tornado)
He spins at high speed while swinging his bat, turning himself into a whirling storm of strikes.
Garou, after facing this move, notes that if he had taken even one direct hit, the result would have been extremely dangerous for him.
Unmatchable Spiral (Butchigiri Spiral)
Bad rotates vertically while dashing forward, drilling into his target with his bat.
This move is powerful enough to literally tear off Elder Centipede’s antennae.
Spirit Savage Needle Fist (Kiai Yaban Hari Fist)
An evolved version of Spirit Savage Tornado, used during his tag-team fight with Garou against Elder Centipede.
With their resonating fighting spirits boosting each other, this technique gains enough destructive power to crack Elder Centipede’s near-impenetrable exoskeleton.
Bad stands out among heroes as one who refuses to abandon ordinary people, no matter how inconvenient the situation.
He has no patience for heroes or elites who abuse their status.
He dislikes the “hero hunter” Garou, but their fight also reveals a certain mutual recognition.
Garou later admits that if Zenko had not interfered and broken Bad’s momentum, a surprise hit from Bad might have killed him, and the outcome of their battle would have been unknown.
Bad respects Sekingar for his willingness to face danger and criticize the Hero Association’s failings.
This puts him at odds with more complacent or self-serving elements within the organization and later primes him to be suspicious of the Neo Heroes’ darker side.
He earns the admiration of lower-ranked heroes when he encourages them not to run away from responsibility.
His straightforward, no-nonsense approach makes him a natural leader, even if he has no interest in formal leadership roles.
Bad is known for several iconic lines that reflect his mindset and fighting philosophy.
“I can handle Demons or Dragons, no problem.”
This line became a running joke among fans but is backed by the creator’s confirmation that he really can fight Dragon-level threats.
“Until I die, huh? That’s a pretty carefree way of thinking…”
“I’m not that soft. I fight until I win.”
These lines sum up his refusal to accept death as an endpoint—he only recognizes victory as the goal.
Bad’s “I can handle Demons or Dragons” quote became a meme in the fandom.
The creator, ONE, has stated in an interview that this was not an exaggeration and that Bad genuinely has the potential to defeat Dragon-level enemies.
In a 2015 New Year’s Eve interview, ONE mentioned that if Zenko had not intervened during the Bad vs. Garou fight, Garou might have died.
This retroactively confirms that Bad’s offensive ceiling is extremely high when his fighting spirit is fully unleashed.
Bad has a recurring connection with centipede-type monsters.
He has fought every member of the line: Junior Centipede, Senior Centipede, Elder Centipede, and finally the ultimate form often referred to as Centipede Sage/Elder Centipede, making centipedes something of a running theme in his battles.
