Ranma Saotome

The protagonist of the series. A first-year student at Furinkan High School, 16 years old. He is the second-generation practitioner of the Anything-Goes Martial Arts Saotome Style and a candidate to inherit the original Anything-Goes Martial Arts. He is engaged to Akane, a decision made by their parents. He often wears Chinese-style clothing and is characterized by his braided ponytail. Since childhood, he has traveled with his father on a martial arts training journey. During training in China, he fell into the "Spring of Drowned Girl" at Jusenkyo, which causes him to turn into a girl when splashed with cold water and revert to a boy with hot water. In the anime, his hair turns red when he transforms into a girl. When in female form, his name is written in hiragana as "らんま." He is afraid of cats. He often makes lighthearted remarks that anger Akane, leading to frequent arguments.
