Maomolin has the look of a huge cat with many ghost-like features.

He is much bigger than a normal cat and looks a little scary, but he also has silly expressions.

Maomolin is a stubborn and pushy spirit.

He’s very determined to find a bride and doesn’t give up easily, even when he gets rejected many times.

He can be both threatening and silly, especially when he tries to win over his chosen brides.

Maomolin often acts selfish and does things his way, usually causing trouble for everyone around him.

Maomolin is a Chinese monster, known as a cat spirit, who comes to seek a bride after seeing special bells brought from China.

Although he seems scary, his power is actually pretty weak.

But to Ranma Saotome, who is terrified of cats, Maomolin is extra dangerous!

Maomolin has some magical powers as a cat spirit.

He can use "marriage bells," which he claims will choose his future bride.

He also shows the ability to possess people, as seen when he takes over Ryouga Hibiki’s body.

But despite his powers, Maomolin often fails in his plans.

• Shampoo: Maomolin wants Shampoo to become his wife because she brings a small marriage bell from China. However, Shampoo doesn’t like him at all and tries to run away.
• Ranma Saotome: Maomolin is a problem for Ranma, who is scared of cats. Ranma tries to protect Shampoo and fights against Maomolin using his "Cat Fu."
• Ryouga Hibiki: Maomolin takes over Ryouga's body in one episode to get close to Akane Tendou.
• Akane Tendou: Maomolin tries to marry Akane while possessing Ryouga, but Akane gets mad and drives him away.

Targeting Shampoo

When Shampoo returns from China, she brings a small magic bell with her.

Maomolin believes any girl holding this bell must become his bride.

He chases Shampoo and tries to make her marry him.

But Shampoo runs to Ranma Saotome for help, knowing Ranma hates cats.

Ranma fights Maomolin using the "Cat Fu" skill and finally makes Maomolin leave Shampoo alone.

Attempting to Curse Shampoo

Maomolin tries again later, planning to make Shampoo turn into a cat forever.

He catches Shampoo but fails to finish his spell, so his plan does not work.

Trouble with Ryouga Hibiki and Akane Tendou

In the anime, Maomolin gets more time on screen with new, funny stories.

He takes over lost Ryouga Hibiki's body and tries to propose to Akane Tendou by pretending to be her boyfriend.

Akane is not fooled and hits him hard, which sends Maomolin flying.

After this, he gives up on special marriages and starts selling magic bells from a street cart.

Other Hijinks

Maomolin also chases after Tsubasa Kurenai, thinking Tsubasa is a girl, not knowing he is actually a boy.

He never gets things right, making him a running joke in the story.

Maomolin is called the "Monster Cat" in the Ranma Da Ranma ‘92 game.

The original voice acting for Maomolin changed partway through the anime because the first actor, You Yoshimura, suddenly passed away in 1991.

After that, Masahiro Anzai played Maomolin’s voice starting with episode 119.

Maomolin’s magic and silly attempts to get a bride make him one of the funniest characters in Ranma ½.

Even though he is not very strong, he leaves a big impression, especially on the cat-fearing Ranma Saotome.
