Shinichi Saimori is a character from My Happy Marriage. He is the husband of Sumi and Kanoko, the father of Miyo and Kaya and the head of the Saimori family. Shinichi is indifferent and cold. He ignores Miyo, the daughter of his first wife, Sumi and he favoring Kaya, the daughter of his beloved second wife, Kanoko. His selfish and weak leadership led to the fall of the Saimori family. Shinichi's story is marked by his emotional distance from his two daughter and his inability to take responsibility, which eventually results in his family's downfall and his own isolation.
Shinichi is described as a middle-aged man with a any appearance who doesn’t mark the spirits.
In the manga and anime, he usually wears traditional japanese kimonos.
Shinichi is not a strong family head. He lacks both real kindness and leadership.
He often shows favoritism, loving Kaya but ignoring Miyo.
While he tries to please his second wife, Kanoko, he does not care about being a fair parent.
He lets his second wife, Kanoko and second daughter, Kaya do everthing they want even if it hurts others.
Shinichi barely pays attention to Miyo, especially after learning she has no supernatural abilities of her lineage even after his first wife, Usuba Sumi, begged him not to abandon Miyo, he ignored Sumi’s wishes for Miyo.
He is often described as uncaring, weak, and cold—even to his family.
Early Life and Marriages
As a young man, Shinichi was in love with Kanoko but his family made him marry Usuba Sumi for political reasons.
After Sumi died, he married his love, Kanoko.
With Sumi, he had a first daughter, Miyo and with Kanoko, he had a second daughter, Kaya.
He favored Kaya, who did have the Saimori family’s supernatural power but Miyo doesn’t have it then Shinichi lost interest for her very quickly.
Saimori Family’s Downfall
Shinichi's weak actions hurt his position as the head of the family.
He has never raised Kaya to be responsible or smart.
He ignored Miyo’s suffering, letting Kanoko and Kaya mistreat her.
He gave up all fatherly or family duties, which led to the Saimori family's decline.
In the live-action movie, Shinichi has the power to control wind.
He tries to use his supernatural technique, barrier technique to fight Kiyoka Kudō but is defeated easily.
There are no signs of him being powerful in the manga or anime.
- Miyo: Daughter with Sumi. Shinichi ignores her, the let is be mistreated by his second wife and builled by his second daughter and shows almost no love or protection.
- Kaya: Daughter with Kanoko. Shinichi spoils her, making her proud and selfish.
- Sumi: First wife, he marries for political reasons. She died early and her wishes for Miyo were ignored.
- Kanoko: Shinichi’s true love and second wife. He tries to please her and never tells her off for bad behavior.
- Kudō Kiyoka: Son-In-law. Kiyoka is shocked by how Shinichi treats Miyo and asks him to apologize.
- Koji Tatsuishi: Kaya’s future husband, accepted into the family as a son-in-law while Shinichi gets rid of Miyo.
Shinichi’s Marriage and His Children
Shinichi fell in love with Kanoko when he was young but the family forced him to marry Sumi Usuba for the sake of magical bloodlines.
He had a daughter, Miyo, with Sumi but lost interest once he found out Miyo had supposedly no supernatural skills.
After Sumi died, Shinichi married Kanoko and had Kaya.
He doted on Kaya and gave her everything, while ignoring or letting Kanoko mistreat Miyo.
Mistreating Miyo
Shinichi knew Kanoko mistreated Miyo but ignored, feeling guilty toward Kanoko.
He expected nothing from Miyo and allowed others to bully her at Saimori residence.
Shinichi did not even try to teach Kaya : responsibility, discipline or kindness.
Miyo's life with the Saimori family was sad and lonely, with Shinichi doing nothing to help.
Miyo’s Marriage Arrangements
Kudō Kiyoka and Kazushi Tatsuishi both wanted to marry a Saimori daughter.
Shinichi sent Miyo to Kudō Kiyoka, with barely any wedding gifts—just a single new kimono and not even a helper.
This was disgraceful for a family of their status.
He thought Miyo would fail in Kiyoka’s home and did not care about what happened to her after.
Shinichi even ignored earlier requests from Minoru Tatsuishi marry Miyo a Kazushi, send away without proper answers.
Kudō Kiyoka Confronts Shinichi
Kiyoka soon learned how Miyo had been mistreated at the Saimori home.
He came to see Shinichi, told him he wanted to marry Miyo for real, and demanded Shinichi apologize to her.
Shinichi was annoyed but had to listen because Kiyoka’s family was much more powerful.
Later, when Miyo was locked up in the Saimori home by another family, Kiyoka and Koji Tatsuishi came to save her.
Shinichi tried to use barrier technique to fight off Kiyoka but failed quickly.
The Saimori Family’s End
After a fight at the Saimori mansion, a fire burned down the house and most of their things because of all the trouble caused by Shinichi’s actions, the Saimori family was punished harshly.
The servants were fired. Shinichi and Kanoko had to move to a small house in the countryside and step away from social life.
Their new life would be much poorer.
Kaya was sent far away to work as a servant in a strict house, separated from her parents.
- Shinichi is often thought of as a "bad parent" by fans of the story.
- He does not act like a real head of the family or a loving father.
- He never tries to stop Kanoko or Kaya from being cruel.
- When sending Miyo away to be married, he does not give proper gifts or even a helper, which is very shameful.
