Character Setting

Edit

Naoki Gotō is the father of Hitori Gotōh, a former musician who is now an incredibly supportive and understanding rock-and-roll dad.

Birthday: October 16

Blood Type: O

Age: 40 (as of Volume 2)

Naoki's most distinct feature is that his eyes are always mysteriously hidden from view.

They are typically obscured by his hair or even by his daughter Hitori's hands.

A rare glimpse of his unobscured younger face can be seen on the cover of an anime script.

Naoki is a kind and supportive father who cheers on his daughter's musical ambitions.

Although he originally hoped she would get into Western music, he happily watches over her journey with Kessoku Band.

He has a deep understanding of the rock spirit, even getting excited when Hitori confessed to breaking her guitar mid-show.

He is incredibly indulgent towards his family, especially his two daughters.

This sweetness has placed him at the very bottom of the family hierarchy, even below the family dog, JimiHen.

However, he's not disliked but rather playfully looked down upon, as Futari still asks him to play with her.

He is also a reliable family man, often seen doing chores like laundry with his wife or cooking for Hitori's friends.

In his youth, Naoki was a passionate, albeit unsuccessful, band member.

He had a taste of success when one of his original songs was used in a local commercial, but that was the band's peak.

He shared the painfully realistic story of how he quit music after his then-girlfriend, Michiyo, gave him an ultimatum.

She told him she would break up with him if he didn't get a proper job.

He first fell for Michiyo when she came to his rescue at a band after-party.

As a lightweight, Naoki was being pressured to chug drinks, but the heavy-drinking Michiyo suddenly appeared and drank it for him.

Naoki is an experienced guitarist and has skills in songwriting from his band days.

The first guitar Hitori ever used was a Gibson Les Paul Custom that she borrowed from him.

He's also quite handy and is credited with creating the "Ripe Mango Robot."

Naoki is a capable cook, preparing things like fried chicken when Nijika and Ikuyo visited their home.

Michiyo Gotō

His wife. They share a loving and cooperative relationship, often doing household chores together.

Hitori Gotōh

His eldest daughter. He is her biggest supporter, lending her his expensive guitar to start her journey.

He can sense Hitori's subtle changes in expression, noting she looked like she was having fun during the school festival live show.

Futari Gotō

His youngest daughter. He spoils her rotten, which has resulted in her having a rather low opinion of his authority.

His Former Band

He reunited with the four-member band from his youth for Kessoku Band's live event.

The members are described as a group of men with diverse life paths, including one who still dreams of making it big.

He describes himself as being part of the "window-seat tribe" at his company, a term for employees with little responsibility.

Despite this, his family lives comfortably in a two-story house in Kanazawa Hakkei, Yokohama, and he could afford a very expensive guitar.

The guitar he lent to Hitori is the same model as one seen selling for 500,000 yen in a Shibuya music store.

He repaired this guitar after Hitori broke it during the school festival performance.

"Arena, thank you!"

Supporting Hitori's Musical Journey

Naoki was the one who lent Hitori her first guitar, a valuable instrument he owned as a hobby.

He also suggested she start her "guitarhero" channel, helping her take the first step in sharing her music with the world.

Unbeknownst to Hitori, he set up monetization on her video channel.

This required a legal guardian's permission, as Hitori was not yet 18.

The School Festival Aftermath

When Hitori confessed to breaking the guitar during the school festival, Naoki's reaction was one of pure rock excitement.

He exclaimed, "Breaking it during a live show is so exciting!"

He then gave her the money earned from her channel's ad revenue to cover the repair costs.

This act revealed his secret support and provided Hitori with the funds she had earned herself.

Return to the Stage

In Volume 6, Naoki reunited his old band to perform as a supporting act for Kessoku Band's self-organized live event.

Their performance was praised by Ikuyo as "cool and sophisticated," though Nijika had expected a gag band.

However, his stage banter fell flat, and he cringe-inducingly shouted "Arena, thank you!" while throwing a pick.

This moment of "painful delusion," as Hitori saw it, was met with a chilly response from the audience.
