Character Introduction

Edit
A priest from the Suwa district in Shinano Province. The Suwa family is said to be descendants of the deity Takeminakata, and they have traditionally served as the chief priests of the Suwa Grand Shrine, which enshrines this god, thus they are treated as sacred beings. Therefore, he also possesses divine qualities, including the imperfect ability to foresee the future and control the weather at will. Meanwhile, the Suwa family also governs Suwa district and were vassals to the ruling Hōjō clan. Yorishige is revered as a living god, comparable to the Emperor in Kyoto and the Izumo family of Izumo Grand Shrine, and he leads a group of warriors known as the Suwa Divine Party, founded on his devout faith.
Despite looking too young to have grandchildren, he is a slender and gentle man who, when emotional, emits a halo from the back of his head while displaying a suspicious smile, often engaging in bizarre behaviors. Consequently, upon their first meeting, Tokiyuki called him a "phony medium," and he is somewhat disdainfully referred to as "Foolish God" by the people of Suwa. His ability to see the future leads him to sporadically reference 21st-century modern culture, which confuses those around him and prompts him to make meta-commentary.
During a visit to Kamakura for prayers, he met Tokiyuki and prophesied that "Tokiyuki will become a hero that shakes the heavens at the age of 10, two years from now." When the Kamakura shogunate was about to fall, he was asked by Takatoki to hide Tokiyuki in Suwa. He taught Tokiyuki everything necessary to win, including military and intellectual skills, fostering his growth as a warrior. Tokiyuki came to think of him as a second father, and they made a promise that Tokiyuki would cut his hair in a coming-of-age ceremony once he regained control.
During the Nakasendai Rebellion, he was defeated by Takauji through divine power and suffered a fatal wound. Before he could be finished off, he was rescued by Tokiyuki, with whom he exchanged final words before dying. Along with his own death, he also staged Tokiyuki's death as a deception.
