Mama is an American Shorthair mother cat with three kittens, including Chi. One day, while out for a walk, Mama becomes separated from Chi and they are parted. Afterwards, during Chi's life with the Yamada family, Chi gradually begins to forget about Mama. Mama lives near a pet-friendly apartment building, and sometimes passes by Chi, but neither of them realizes it.
