Sylvia carries a heart far more scarred and embittered than even her squadron mate Theodor Eberbach.

Her homeland was devastated during the Polish retreat, when the BETA invasion laid waste to everything she knew. Rescued from this ruin by Irisdina Bernhard, she was brought into the fold of the 666th TFS. This trauma forged a deeply misanthropic shell, and she frequently displays a profound disgust for camaraderie or emotional closeness.

Her sharp tongue is infamous. Upon meeting the newly transferred Katia Waldheim, she delivered a chillingly hostile welcome, stating, "I hate brats who are all talk. If the squadron had a full roster, I’d kill you on the next sortie."

She maintains this icy, confrontational distance with her peers, including Anett Hosenfelt and Theodor Eberbach. The single, striking exception to her merciless conduct is Pham Thi-Rang, with whom she is not cold; Sylvia often serves in a fire support role within Pham's rear-guard unit, functioning smoothly under her command.

Captivity

After Lise Hohenstein revealed her true nature, Sylvia was taken prisoner and subjected to brutal interrogation and torture. Even under such duress, her deflective concern was drawn to Walther Krüger, of whom she noted took far more severe injuries than herself.

Death

Her demise is a constant across both the original novels and the TV anime adaptation, yet the circumstances of her final moments differ, and the sequence of her death was swapped with that of Walther Krüger.

In the Original Novels

During the climactic battle against the Stasi in Berlin, after a suicidal charge by Walther neutralized Beatrix Brehme's machine, Irisdina's retrieval was all but secured. To shatter the momentum of the revolution, a Stasi MiG-27 deliberately opened fire on the masses of citizens gathered at the Berlin Wall, demanding its opening. Without a moment's hesitation for her own safety, Sylvia threw her own Tactical Surface Fighter between the barrage and the crowd, using her machine as a shield for the people. The maneuver destroyed her TSF and dealt her a fatal wound in the process. Her uncontrollable, shattered craft slammed into the frozen surface of the Spree River and disintegrated. This sacrifice did not merely save countless lives; it crystallized the citizens' resolve, preventing the revolution's morale from collapsing and spurring the onlooking masses into a fierce, renewed uprising.

In the TV Anime

In the final confrontation with Beatrix Brehme, Sylvia took a lethal hit while shielding her comrades, falling from the sky to her death. It was the shock of her downing that immediately spurred Walther Krüger into a desperate, decisive suicide attack against Brehme, an act that turned the tide and pried open the path to victory.
