Mamekichi Maizuka

A student in Class 2-3 of Hyakki Academy. 16 years old. Height 135cm, birthday November 8th. Member of the Biology Club. Nickname is Mame.

A tanuki yokai. Animal yokai. Wears a bag and can transform into any form he likes, as long as it's not larger than his own body.

He has been best friends with Mikoto Sano since middle school and lives in the same dorm room. He cares so much for Sano that he sometimes becomes a "monster parent," but he is generally considerate of his friends. He has a bad relationship with Yanagida.

In the side story, he mentions in his first year that "teachers with noticeable eccentricities make daily life more stimulating." In the main story, he is very fond of the protagonist Haruaki Abe and his unique teaching style.

He is self-confident, has high pride, and is jealous, which sometimes leads him to speak ill of others, but he has excellent communication skills and many friends. He is very good at guessing others' feelings, utilizing the keen intuition typical of animal yokai. Although he struggles with studying, he is quick-witted.

His family is from Shikoku and runs an organization called the Shikoku Tanuki Union Ponpoko Pon Group (which is depicted with some anti-social connotations in the story), and he is the eldest of over 30 siblings. The youngest is 3 years old and named Beans.
