Rintarou Miki is a 25-year-old teacher at Hyakki Academy, where he teaches Yokai Studies and is also in charge of the basketball club and student life guidance. He is a youkai, specifically a Shuten-doji (Oni), who gains incredible strength when drinking alcohol, but is actually very weak to it and quickly goes into a drunken rage. Rintarou speaks in a soft Kyoto dialect, hides his left eye with his hair, and has a mysterious and distant personality. His past is marked by family issues, childhood trauma, and a strong fear of women, all of which shape how he interacts with others. Despite being a powerful oni, he struggles with self-confidence about his strength. Rintarou often keeps to himself and is especially private, never letting others get too close.

When Rintarou was young, he believed he was a girl and spent most of his time around his five older sisters. Because he was always being bossed around, he developed a strong fear of women. During his childhood, he became friends with a human boy in town, but his own mother ended up eating his friend’s soul, leaving Rintarou deeply hurt and unable to trust others afterward.

Struggles with Power and Self-Confidence

Growing up, his mother continued to drain his yokai powers, so even though he should be strong like other oni, Rintarou is always worried he’s not strong enough. This gives him a big complex about his self-worth and his abilities.

Now a teacher at Hyakki Academy, Rintarou is responsible for Yokai Studies, the basketball club, and student discipline. He lives in the teachers’ dorms, right next to Haruaki Abe, and often helps or hangs out with students, even if he keeps most people at a distance.

Because Rintarou gets incredibly strong from alcohol, but can’t handle drinking at all, he avoids drinking at all costs. If he does drink, he quickly loses control and becomes a wild, drunken mess, so others around him are always careful to keep him away from alcohol.
