Ryuuken Ishida
石田 竜弦(いしだ りゅうけん), 石田龙弦
Character Introduction
EditThe director of Karakura General Hospital, who bears a striking resemblance to Uryuu, uses "I" as his first-person pronoun. Despite being in a non-smoking hospital, he smokes heavily enough to be called out by his close acquaintance, Isshin.
Although he is the last Quincy possessing the Quincy Cross, he dislikes his role because it "doesn't pay," and thus has a strained relationship with his son, whom he cares about. His son addresses him by his first name, which he does not appreciate.
A pure-blooded Quincy, he has no intention of continuing the Quincy lineage, asserting that the Quincy line ended with his father, Souken. He even told Uryuu to quit being a Quincy because he "lacks talent." His skills as a Quincy are genuine, capable of effortlessly defeating even Menos Grande-level Hollows. His weapon is usually kept in a compact form of a short bow, which still possesses high power.
He trained Uryuu to regain his Quincy powers under the condition that he "never involve himself with Shinigami again," and succeeded.
Originally engaged to Masaki Kurosaki, who was on good terms with him, he was unable to do anything when she nearly turned into a Hollow after helping Isshin, who was a Shinigami at the time. Ultimately, he had no choice but to expel her from the Ishida family to part ways with her. Therefore, he had a long-standing relationship with the Kurosaki couple and knew why Isshin lost his Shinigami powers. By this time, he was already living in a mansion with servants and was wealthy.
In the Thousand-Year Blood War arc, it was revealed that the dissection of his wife, Kanae, who had died after receiving Yhwach's consecration, led to his estrangement with his son, Uryuu. While Ichigo and others were challenging Yhwach, he entered the true world castle dressed as a Quincy along with Isshin. Although he did not fight, he contributed to the victory by entrusting Uryuu with the "Still Silver" arrowheads made from the blood clots extracted from the bodies of the consecrated Quincies, which were used to defeat Yhwach. He did not appear in the final episode.
In the anime's bonus segment, he hosts "Quincy Encyclopedia," where, unlike in the main story, he is seen caring for his son, Uryuu.
In the novel version, he does not appear directly but seems to have reconciled with his son after the final battle, paying for his medical school fees.
Technique "Clavier"
A technique that fires multiple arrows at once from the spirit bow, used during training with Uryuu.
