L-ELF is tall and slim. He has silver hair and blue eyes. He always looks neat and serious, fitting his military background.

L-ELF is calm, logical, and almost never shows strong emotions. He always looks for the best result in any situation. He likes to say, "The conclusion that follows is..." when thinking about solutions. L-ELF does not care much about food, hobbies, or even having fun. He finds it hard to be around girls. His main focus is the mission, and he can act cold—even toward friends—if they become threats.

His drive comes from wanting to win and his promise to Princess Lieselotte. Despite his cold front, L-ELF learns about friendship and loyalty through his adventures, especially his connection with Haruto Tokishima.

L-ELF was taken to an orphan camp as a child. During a transfer, he tried to escape and was almost caught by Dorssian soldiers. Princess Lieselotte W. Dorssia saved his life, making a deep mark on him, and he began to care for her greatly.

He later joined the Karlstein Institute and became L-ELF, which means "11th of L in Karlstein." His birth name is Michael, but his last name remains unknown because it was taken from him.

Ten years before the main story, L-ELF spent time with a terrorist group. He was abandoned by them, got captured, and was rescued by Lieselotte. Three years before the current story, he tried to save Lieselotte again but failed to find a safe place, so he could not rescue her.

One day, he killed his teammate F-sechs, who turned out to be a royalist rebel, following the rules of his organization and learning to be ruthless.

L-ELF is a genius at figuring things out fast. He can take down many enemies with his fighting skills and is even called a "One-Man Army" by ARUS, another military force. He is good with tactics, creating strong plans, and reading what his enemies will do next—almost like he can see the future.

He is also great at understanding the power of Magius, an important force in the story. L-ELF can spot hidden intentions, like seeing through the special curriculum at Sakimori Academy.

• Lieselotte W. Dorssia: L-ELF deeply loves her and is always trying to protect or save her. He keeps her photo with him all the time.
• Haruto Tokishima: At first, L-ELF tries to use Haruto for his own goals, but over time, they build trust and become real friends.
• A-drei: Once partners, L-ELF chooses to side with Haruto instead of returning to A-drei.
• Karlstein Institute: L-ELF has a complicated past with the other members, feeling betrayed or forced to make harsh choices.

Joining Sakimori Academy

L-ELF and Q-vier sneak into Module 77 using fake names, acting as new students. Their goal is to take Valvrave Unit 1 and kill Haruto Tokishima. However, Haruto, using incredible powers, bites L-ELF and takes over his body. Because of this, L-ELF is seen as a traitor by Dorssia.

Plans for Revolution

Even when people think he betrayed Dorssia, L-ELF wants to change Dorssia through revolution. He decides to "contract" with Haruto, using him and the Valvrave's power.

Sakimori Academy Becomes its Own Nation

Shouko Sashinami declares the school independent. This ruins L-ELF’s original plan, so he goes along with the students, helping them with military training and picking who could control the Valvrave suits.

He lives with Haruto in the same room so they can watch each other, as neither trusts the other at first. L-ELF has to adjust and try to keep everyone safe while working with people less cold than himself.

New Challenges and Heartbreak

L-ELF learns that Lieselotte is nearby and tries to save her. He meets her after three years, helps her escape, but she sacrifices herself for everyone. L-ELF is heartbroken by her death.

Afterward, he ends up stranded on the moon with Haruto. The time there helps L-ELF learn more about truths behind Magius and the Valvrave system.

Final Fights and Farewell

L-ELF sneaks into Dorssian forces, meets A-drei again, and they share the truth about Magius and Dorssia. When Cain Dressel attacks, L-ELF lets Haruto borrow his body, and they finally defeat Cain.

Sadly, Haruto's body is at its limits, and he dies in front of L-ELF. L-ELF finally calls Haruto his "friend," crying for his loss.

After the final battle, L-ELF stays with the people of Module 77. Hundreds of years later, a boy who looks like L-ELF is seen and is called "Prince," but it is unclear if he is truly related.

• L-ELF's comments about eggs in episode 1 led fans to call him "HamEgg L-ELF" as a joke.
• He is often seen as unlucky, thanks to many problems happening to him, shown in the ending theme "It's Not Me."
