He has a big white mustache and only a bit of white hair on his head, making him look older than he really is.

He used to have black, thick hair when he was younger, especially around age 42.

He is often seen wearing a lab coat.

Agasa’s body shape is similar to Joseph Meguire, making him a bit chubby.

He drives a Volkswagen Beetle car, which he loves, but it often gets flat tires.

Agasa is gentle, friendly, and easy to approach.

He has a strong sense of responsibility and always looks after kids, especially Conan Edogawa, Ai Haibara, and the Detective Boys.

He is kind and loves making jokes or puns, but others often find his jokes silly.

He treats the Detective Boys like grandkids even though he doesn’t have his own family.

Agasa was born in Beika Town and went to Teitan Elementary School.

The First to Know Conan’s Secret

When Jimmy Kudo is forced to take a strange drug and turns into a child, Hershel Agasa is the first to hear his true story.

At first, he doesn’t believe Conan Edogawa is really Jimmy Kudo, but after seeing his detective skills, he helps keep his identity a secret.

Agasa suggests the name “Conan Edogawa” for Jimmy’s new identity and comes up with a plan so he can move in with Rachel Moore and her dad.

Guardian of Ai Haibara

Agasa becomes a guardian to Ai Haibara, who escapes from the evil group after turning into a child, just like Jimmy.

Agasa gives her the name Ai Haibara and has her join Teitan Elementary School with the Detective Boys.

Ai trusts Agasa deeply, and they live together at his house.

He cares for her, makes sure she eats healthy, and acts like family since she lost her parents and sister.

Gadget Master

After Conan Edogawa moves in with the Moores, Agasa regularly invents gadgets for Conan to use in solving cases—for example, the Tracking Glasses and Turbo Engine Skateboard.

His gadgets help the kids get out of danger many times.

Sometimes, he invents things just for fun, but they still show his kindness and desire to support the kids.

Detective Role

Sometimes, Agasa pretends to be the detective so Conan can explain the mystery behind the scenes.

He doesn’t need to be knocked out with Conan’s Stun-Gun Wristwatch—he just lip-syncs to Conan’s explanation.

This makes things less suspicious than “Sleeping Richard Moore” and makes the kids and police think Agasa is really smart.

He makes little mistakes by talking at the wrong time, but everyone thinks he’s clever.

The Black Organization Boss Rumors

For a long time, Case Closed fans wondered if Agasa was secretly the villain “the Boss.”

Many fans guessed this because Agasa was there from the start and had amazing science skills.

There were even jokes online like “It was me, Jimmy!” with Agasa as the final boss.

But the series author eventually said Agasa isn’t “the Boss,” and the real boss was revealed, ending those theories.

Agasa still loves ginkgo trees, as he once said, "I still love ginkgo trees even now!"

He is a fan of The Beatles and is the same age group as Kiyoaki Matsumoto.

Agasa is popular with children and sometimes envies grandfathers who have grandkids, though Conan often jokes he should find a wife first.
