Kikoru Shinomiya

Kafka's peer, Reno, is a 16-year-old prodigy who graduated as the youngest valedictorian from the California Subjugation University by skipping grades, a promising newcomer in the Defense Force. She is the daughter of Defense Force Director Kikoru Shinomiya and former Defense Force 2nd Division Captain Hikari Shinomiya. Before the enlistment exam, she had a dispute with Kafka over parking and became astonished and attentive when she saw Kafka effortlessly lift a car with his bare hands. She has an abnormal obsession with being perfect in everything, a trait influenced by her father. Although she scored top marks in the enlistment exam, she was severely injured during the subjugation test when No. 9 intruded. Kafka saved her, and she witnessed his transformation into No. 8. After the exam, she promised to keep Kafka's identity a secret as a way to repay him for saving her but declared that she would subjugate him if he ever became a threat to humanity, a declaration Kafka accepted. Upon joining the force as the top of her class and being assigned to the 3rd Division, she is evaluated as a force to be reckoned with, following Mina and Soshiro Hoshina, and is exceptionally provided with a prototype ax-shaped weapon.
