Soshiro Hoshina

Deputy commander of the 3rd unit.

Characterized by a mushroom haircut and narrow eyes, speaks in Kansai dialect. Comes from a family lineage of monster extermination squads that dates back to the Muromachi period. A cheerful and approachable person, but shows a ruthless side when facing monsters. During the enlistment exam, he took an interest in Kafka for fun, but felt something was off when Kafka's vitals disappeared unnaturally during the appearance of a humanoid monster, leading to Kafka's disqualification. He decided to monitor Kafka by hiring him as a candidate.

A practitioner of the Hoshina-style swordsmanship, skilled in handling swords and uses dual swords. According to him, he is inferior to Mina against large monsters, but has an advantage over medium and small ones. He has a strong attachment to swords, and despite the increasing size of monsters and the low effectiveness of guns, leading others to suggest he give up on the defense squad, he holds special respect for Mina, who needed him as a sword specialist.
