Character Setting

Edit

Yui is an orphaned girl who becomes an important helper to Sakuna-hime. She is very skilled at weaving and crafts, creating clothes and hats for the group. While she seems calm and gentle, Yui is actually quite clever and knows how to get by in tough situations. She mostly follows Kinta, who comes from the same place as her, and speaks in a countryside accent. Yui is strict with Kaimaru and isn’t afraid to scold him. Over time, she starts off with a selfish attitude, but as she spends more time with the others, she becomes kinder and helps the group more. Yui’s real form is a magical crane, and her story is full of secrets and surprises.

Yui has long brown hair down to her waist and wears a red pin shaped like a pinwheel on the back right side of her head.

Her bangs cross like folded wings and she has long side locks with a stray hair sticking out.

Yui usually wears a grey kimono with a red belt, red sandal thongs, and two-toothed clogs.

When working in water, she pulls up her sleeves and skirt to show her knees.

In some scenes, she wears shrine maiden clothes.

She is described as a true beauty, with even Sakuna-hime saying Yui is very pretty.

She is the only character besides Sakuna-hime who is shown changing outfits.

Yui cares about the beauty of clothes and people, and she’s interested in foreign clothes and other beautiful women.

At first, Yui looks soft-spoken and friendly.

She greets Sakuna-hime every time she meets her.

She seems like a “good girl” compared to other members of the group.

But actually, Yui is very clever and sometimes acts sneaky for her own good.

She often avoids work or keeps secrets if it helps her.

Yui can be strict, especially toward Kaimaru, scolding or even slapping him if he’s noisy or misbehaving.

She is rarely friendly to people except for Kinta and Sakuna-hime.

She tries to get close to the “most important” person in the group for her own safety, showing real street smarts.

Yui’s attitude is shaped by her difficult past and the need to survive as a weak person in the group.

As time goes by, Yui starts helping more, taking care of people like Myrthe and even picking Kaimaru up when he falls.

She gradually opens up and becomes kinder.

Yui comes from the same region as Kinta and began traveling with him at some point.

She lost her parents and had to learn to survive on her own.

Yui's greatest skill is in weaving and sewing, and she learned it so she could be useful to others, especially Kinta.

She never liked showing off her crafts to people for a reason that is later revealed.

Even as a child, Yui is talented at spinning thread, weaving, and making clothes.

After building the Weaving Hut in the game, she makes clothes and hats (armor) to help Sakuna-hime and the others.

She is better at making clothes than hats.

Her skills are so good that even adults are impressed.

She cares most about Kinta, following him everywhere and making him the center of her life.

She can be a bit like a “stalker,” constantly watching what Kinta does.

She understands Kaimaru, the youngest member, though Yui is often annoyed by his behavior and scolds him more than anyone else.

She takes time to warm up to others but slowly becomes friends with everyone.

Yui looks up to Sakuna-hime and tries to stay on her good side.

She’s interested in Myrthe, especially about foreign outfits.

Yui is the only “official beauty” among the main cast, according to the game creators.

She is the only child skilled enough to make clothes for the group.

She tends to slap Kaimaru when he gets too wild.

Yui is the only one besides Sakuna-hime to change into different outfits during the story.

  • “Hello, Goddess.”
  • “I worked hard and learned this, because I wanted Kinta to be happy.”
  • “Goddess, do you want me to make something?”
  • “You! Quiet down! I’ll slap you again if you don’t!”
  • “Stop it, Kaimaru! Go away! I said, go play somewhere else!”

Becoming Part of the Group

Yui, a beautiful but sly girl, started following Kinta everywhere soon after they met.

While she seems gentle, Yui is sneaky, sometimes skipping out on group work or slacking off.

She only listened to the grownups like Tauemon and Myrthe because they insisted.

Yui is not very interested in making friends except for Kinta and the group leader, Sakuna-hime.

She finds Kaimaru especially annoying and scolds or even slaps him when he gets noisy or bothers her during work.

Hidden Identity

The truth is, Yui is really a crane who turned into a human.

She didn’t want anyone to see her making things because, by a promise, if a person saw her weave, she would turn back into a crane.

Kinta once freed her from a trap when she was a crane, and since then, Yui wanted to pay him back by staying with him.

One day, Sakuna-hime’s curiosity leads her to see Yui return to her bird form.

Feeling responsible, Sakuna-hime helps bring Yui back and makes Kinta reveal his honest feelings.

Difficult Choices

After learning the truth, Yui becomes torn between staying with her friends or following Kinta, who wants to leave the island for his own dreams.

Yui is sad and steps back from him for a while.

With help from Sakuna-hime, Yui talks things over with Kinta.

She finally decides to stay and live quietly with her friends on the island.

A New Life

Yui becomes a famous weaving goddess.

Many gods come to the island hoping to marry her, but Sakuna-hime always sends them away.

There are some changes in the anime version.

Scenes like Yui slapping Kaimaru are made less harsh.

Her relationship with the group members is shown as a bit softer in the anime.
