Character Setting

Edit

Hiiro is a male survivor of the Great Ogre Tribe’s village in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime and serves as an elder “big brother” figure to Benimaru and the other former ogres.

He later becomes a Kijin under the service of Princess Towa of the small kingdom of Raja, playing a key role in linking Raja with Rimuru Tempest’s nation of Tempest.

Hiiro has long, vivid red hair similar to Benimaru’s, emphasizing their shared heritage from the Great Ogre Tribe.

He has two horns on his forehead, but one of them was broken off when he was a child while fighting monsters to protect a young Benimaru.

His missing horn gives him a rugged, battle-worn look that reflects his harsh past.

In combat, he wields a long-bladed polearm (a type of long nagamaki-like weapon), showing a disciplined and experienced fighting style.

As Benimaru’s senior and “big brother,” Hiiro is protective and serious, but also deeply emotional about his lost village and comrades.

His anger toward the Orcs, and later his ability to let go of that hatred, shows that he is capable of growth, forgiveness, and loyalty to his new home.

Hiiro was originally a member of the Great Ogre Tribe’s village, where he grew up alongside Benimaru and the others.

From an early age, he acted as their older brother figure and protector, even losing one horn while defending young Benimaru from monsters.

Before the Orc disaster, Hiiro worked as a mercenary.

He was hired, together with ten comrades, by Clayman to serve in the city of Jistav, one of Clayman’s territories.

While in Clayman’s employ, Hiiro received news that the Orc Army had attacked the Great Ogre Tribe’s village.

Enraged and desperate to return, he deserted Clayman’s forces along with his group, rushing back toward his homeland.

On the way, he encountered Clayman’s army led by Yamza and became caught in a skirmish.

In this clash, Hiiro suffered mortal wounds, and the situation became hopeless for both him and his remaining comrades.

At this critical moment, envoys from the small sub-nation known as the Raja Subordinate Kingdom arrived and rescued Hiiro.

To save his life, Princess Towa used the power of the magical tiara called Tiara, performing a naming ritual that consumed the souls of Hiiro, the tiara’s magic power, and the still-living ogre comrades as the price.

Through this ritual, Hiiro was named and evolved into a Kijin, surviving at the cost of his comrades’ lives.

After regaining consciousness, he immediately rushed back to the Great Ogre Tribe’s village.

When Hiiro arrived, the village had already been completely destroyed by the Orcs.

Crushed by despair and consumed by hatred toward the Orcs, he returned to Raja, now carrying the grief of his fallen home.

Recognizing Towa’s efforts and sacrifice in saving him, Hiiro chose to serve her and the kingdom of Raja.

From that point on, he devoted himself to protecting Towa and supporting Raja’s survival.

Raja faced severe hardship and decline, including a curse-like poisonous miasma that afflicted the kingdom.

Towa used the power of the Tiara repeatedly to protect Raja from this curse and poison, slowly sacrificing her own health and being gradually consumed by the contamination.

Hiiro became desperate to save Towa, who was being eroded by the curse and poisonous influence of the Tiara.

He sought a way to secure more resources and support, especially by cultivating lands within Jura Forest to stabilize Raja’s future.

To achieve this, Hiiro traveled to the nation of Tempest, ruled by Rimuru Tempest, in order to request permission to develop land in Jura Forest.

His mission was both political and deeply personal: saving Towa’s life depended on strengthening Raja’s position and gaining outside help.

When Hiiro arrived in Tempest, he discovered that the development work in the forest was being carried out by Geld and the Orcs.

For Hiiro, the Orcs were the very race that had destroyed his home and slaughtered his people, so he saw them as unforgivable enemies.

Overwhelmed by rage and grief, Hiiro lost control and attacked Geld and the workers.

This confrontation was driven entirely by his trauma from the destruction of the Great Ogre Tribe’s village.

During this heated moment, Hiiro unexpectedly reunited with Benimaru and the other survivors from his old village.

They had believed each other lost, and the realization that both sides had lived was a powerful emotional shock.

Benimaru and the others greeted Hiiro with joy, honoring him as their long-lost elder brother.

At the same time, Hiiro saw that Benimaru and his comrades had accepted Geld and the Orcs as allies and comrades within Tempest.

Realizing that the Orcs were no longer his absolute enemies but were living alongside his “family” in Tempest, Hiiro began to let go of his deep-seated hatred.

This marked a major turning point in his character, transforming revenge into understanding and cooperation.

During a banquet held in Tempest, Hiiro sat together with his old village survivors and the leaders of Rimuru’s nation.

In this relaxed setting, he opened up about Raja’s plight, Towa’s condition, and his request for aid.

Hiiro directly asked Rimuru Tempest for help in saving Towa and supporting Raja.

Benimaru and the other former ogres firmly supported Hiiro’s plea, reinforcing how much they still trusted and respected him.

Moved by their situation and the backing of Benimaru’s group, Rimuru accepted Hiiro’s request.

As a result, Tempest formally agreed to assist Raja, and diplomatic relations were established between the two nations.

Through this agreement, Hiiro became a key bridge between Raja and Tempest.

His journey from vengeful survivor to diplomatic intermediary highlights both his growth and his enduring loyalty to his people and to Towa.
