Character Setting

Edit

Yoritō Toki is a warlord with monstrous strength and a terrifying appearance who commands with overwhelming force. He is known for using soldiers as weapons, throwing them at enemies to win battles, and for his shocking lack of empathy, seeing people as tools. Yoritō Toki's inhuman power and bizarre personality make him a legend, but his downfall comes from refusing to change, leading to his tragic and violent end.

Yoritō Toki wears armor that looks terrifying, decorated with crushing jaws like those of a trap or a shark. His face is hidden by a demon-like mask, with only his glowing eyes showing, which seem almost non-human. Under the mask, he has a slim, long-haired face that could be called handsome, but his eyes are lifeless and he shows no emotions.

He is so huge that he needs two horses to ride. His weapon is a giant sword that is ten times heavier than normal, which he swings like it is nothing.

Yoritō Toki is proud, selfish, and acts like a brute warlord. He doesn’t treat people as humans, using his own men as disposable tools or even as weapons to throw at enemies. He has a strange charisma—the people around him seem numb to his actions and accept his cruelty as normal. He is fearless, shockingly straightforward, and doesn’t try to disguise how little he cares about others.

He quickly claims leadership in battle and uses violence even in simple things like choosing positions—he once ripped a samurai’s fingers apart to take a lottery number he wanted.

Yoritō Toki is the lord protector of Mino (today’s Gifu Prefecture) and serves as a major warlord in the Ashikaga army. He is most famous for his role as commander at the Battle of Aonohara, where he nearly destroys a much larger enemy army with only 1,000 men.

His house’s symbol is the bellflower, and he’s known as the “Rasetsu Demon.”

  • Superhuman Strength: Can easily crush bones and wield a huge sword.
  • Human Bomb Attack: Throws soldiers at enemy lines, using them as living bombs.
  • Special Skill: "Extreme Giant Body" – Boosts strength hugely but lowers dexterity.
  • Skill: "Bug Master" – Army’s loyalty is forced to 100%, and for 10 turns, nothing lowers it, but the game often freezes.
  • Skill: "Solo Fame Bomb" – Uses one soldier as a sacrifice for a ranged attack.
  • Skill: "Mino Bone Hail" – Sacrifices up to 12 soldiers for a 360-degree area attack (drops loyalty unless used with "Bug Master").

“It wasn’t ‘the court.’ You misheard—I said ‘the dog.’”

“Toki does not give way to dogs! Shoot! This is dog hunting!”

The Monster Commander

In 1338, Ashikaga forces gather at Aonohara to stop Akiie Kitabatake’s army. Yoritō Toki insists on being commander, forcefully claiming his chosen position.

He leads just 700 soldiers against Kitabatake’s tens of thousands. Yoritō Toki uses his human bomb tactic, throwing soldiers at the enemy and devastating the opposing army.

He almost kills Kitabatake and defeats Tokiyuki Hojo and Kojirō easily, making them accept the possibility of death.

The Turnaround and Defeat

Shizuku uses a clever plan to waste Yoritō Toki’s supply of soldiers. Eventually, the Elusive Samurai group and their allies, along with the injured Kitabatake, regroup and fight back, forcing Yoritō Toki to retreat. Although defeated, Yoritō Toki’s attack has so weakened Kitabatake’s army that they give up trying to break through Ashikaga lines ahead.

Kitabatake warns, “A warrior who only speaks with his blade can never be anything but the master of one battlefield… Men like that will eventually destroy themselves off the field.” His prediction comes true.

Later Battles and Decline

In 1340, Yoritō Toki joins the conflict at Daikokuōji Castle to help Sadamune Ogasawara against Tokiyuki Hojo. The enemy tricks them and escapes. Tokiyuki leaves a message for Yoritō Toki, referencing a famous historical battle. Tokiyuki’s arrow pierces through armor and strikes Yoritō Toki’s right shoulder—wounded before by Kitabatake—forcing him off a cliff but not killing him.

Sadamune Ogasawara tells Yoritō Toki, “Old wounds and glory have dulled the monster. You're no longer unbeatable. Change your ways.”

The Monster’s End

Two years later, after Yoritō Toki helps found the government and grows more arrogant, disaster strikes. After failing at horseback archery and growing frustrated by a wounded, paralyzed arm (from Tokiyuki’s arrow), he gets drunk and angry that his men can now predict his actions.

Suddenly encountering Emperor Kōgon’s carriage, Yoritō Toki and his followers attack, shooting arrows and even throwing the ox cart with the emperor inside into a tree. This outrage shocks the government.

Ashikaga Tadayoshi, furious at the insult to the emperor, declares Yoritō Toki and his family traitors and sends soldiers to kill them. Yoritō Toki tries to fight back with brute force but, weakened by his injuries, is finally killed by a spear from Tadatsune Momonoi and attacks from all sides.

Ashikaga Tadayoshi tells him, “Against the spears of a united group, your power means nothing. I will make a world with no place for monsters like you.”

His death by teamwork, not by a single enemy, fulfills the prophecy that those who cannot change will destroy themselves outside the battlefield. His end also causes internal conflict in the new government, with power struggles spreading far and wide.

  • “Rasetsu Demon” is his nickname.
  • He uses a demon mask and giant weapons.
  • Yoritō Toki is capable of feats no normal human can perform.
  • Although he appears scary, under the mask he looks very ordinary—almost handsome, but very empty.
  • His house symbol is the bellflower.

  • Respects his step-son, Nagayama Yorimoto, and elite cavalry, but only because they are hard to replace.
  • Feared by allies like Sadamune Ogasawara, who avoids him.
  • Seen by enemies like Tokiyuki Hojo and Akiie Kitabatake as a terrifying and inhuman monster.
  • Eventually betrayed and killed by Ashikaga Tadayoshi and his men.

  • Based on the real historical figure, Yoritō Toki.
  • Serves as a vivid example of someone whose refusal to adapt brings about his own destruction.
