Shiranui is a male water-element onmyoji from MAO, a former disciple of the Goko Clan and one of Mao’s senior fellow apprentices, later becoming an assassin who pursues Mao in the Taisho era.
Shiranui once served the Goko Clan as an onmyoji and was one of Mao’s senior fellow disciples.
He was also Masago’s junior fellow disciple.
He uses water-based techniques, but his skill in onmyojutsu was never considered impressive.
Mao openly dismissed him as beneath notice, and even his own master treated him coldly.
In truth, Shiranui was the master’s biological son.
Shiranui’s first-person pronoun is "I" in a rough, masculine style.
His speech later shifts into a Kansai-style dialect, specifically described as closer to Kyoto-style speech in the Taisho era.
In the Heian era, he spoke in a more ordinary manner.
His later way of talking gives him a more distinctive and theatrical presence.
Shiranui secretly had feelings for Masago.
When he tried to stop her from fleeing, he witnessed her final moments.
Because he was present at her death, he became incorporated into the ring of Goshikido.
That event tied his fate to the larger chain of curses and conflicts surrounding the clan.
On the day the Goko Clan was destroyed, Shiranui lost both legs in an attack from Mao after Mao went berserk.
His current legs are borrowed from the water dragon of his shikigami.
In the Taisho era, Shiranui takes up the name of the Goko Clan once more.
He becomes involved in assassination work using curses.
He joins forces with Yurako and Hakubi in an effort to restore the Goko Clan.
For that goal, he targets Mao in order to obtain the secret treasure of Taizan Fukun.
His aim is to force Mao to reveal what he knows about that treasure.
By doing so, Shiranui hopes to become the true successor of the Goko Clan.
Mao
Shiranui was Mao’s senior fellow disciple, but the two were never equals in reputation.
Mao regarded him as insignificant, and their relationship later hardened into open hostility.
Shiranui now hunts Mao for information about the secret treasure of Taizan Fukun.
Their connection is deeply rooted in the fall of the Goko Clan.
Masago
Masago was Shiranui’s senior fellow disciple, and he secretly admired her.
His attempt to stop her escape led him to witness her death, which changed his destiny.
Sana and Yurako
Shiranui is the elder brother of Sana and Yurako through their shared father.
In the Taisho era, he works together with Yurako as part of the effort to revive the Goko Clan.
Shiranui specializes in water-element techniques.
Although he was once considered one of the less talented disciples, he remains a capable and dangerous practitioner.
His most striking physical trait in later years is that his missing legs are replaced through the power of a water dragon shikigami.
This gives him an eerie and memorable presence.
