Matoba Shin is the heir of the Matoba Group, whose life was forever changed when tragedy struck his family due to Grimus of Wrath’s attack. His deep-rooted sense of justice and compassion stems from surviving that traumatic event.
Matoba Shin’s father is Kazuma Matoba, and his younger sister is Rie Matoba. He lost his mother to a monster’s assault, which also left both him and his sister severely injured. This experience awakened an intense, almost abnormal desire to uphold justice and kindness.
Shin harbors a strong aversion to violence, choosing instead to devote himself to charitable activities. His generosity and empathy towards strangers are almost excessive, making him stand out within his social circle.
While on a date with Sayaka Ogata, Shin rushes to help when his sister Rie is endangered. He forms a contract with the sword Death Dragon (True Edge) and becomes a Chrysalis. Later, after receiving an incomplete dose of Prismaphone, he temporarily returns to normal but struggles with emerging violent tendencies due to his strained relationship with Sayaka. When Gai Ogata transforms into an Armed Wielder, Shin once again takes up the sword to oppose him. In battle, he confronts a monster linked to Rie’s disappearance, only to discover its true identity—his sister Rie—driving him to madness and awakening his own Armed Wielder form.
During the final confrontation, Shin faces Gai Ogata, pushing him to the brink but realizing he cannot thwart Grimus of Wrath’s ambitions. Accepting his limits, Shin entrusts Sayaka to Gai, allowing himself to be struck through the chest by Gai’s blade and vanishing into the light.
As an Armed Wielder, Shin’s appearance mirrors Gai’s but features a distinct color scheme: his body is entirely white and retains a right arm. His weapon is a katana that closely resembles Death Dragon (Shadow Edge) in its transformed state.
Kazuma Matoba (Father)
Rie Matoba (Sister)
Sayaka Ogata (Friend and possible romantic interest)
Gai Ogata (Rival and opponent)
Shin’s trauma led to an extreme aversion to violence, but his kindness sometimes places him at odds with reality. When pushed to his limits, he displays intense resolve and willingness to sacrifice himself for the right cause.
Shin’s battles are fueled not only by duty but also by deeply personal pain. His journey is marked by self-discovery, confronting the darkness within himself after learning harsh truths about his loved ones.
As an Armed Wielder, Shin’s form is strikingly white with a formidable katana, signifying purity and strength. This visual contrast underscores his complicated relationship with violence.
