Eris Boreas Greyrat

Eris is a human noblewoman from the Asura Kingdom and the only daughter of the Boreas Greyrat house.

She is Rudeus Greyrat’s second cousin and two years older than him.

She starts out as a notoriously violent noble girl, expelled from her academy and known as a “mad dog” for her aggressiveness.

After Rudeus becomes her private tutor, she grows into a powerful swordswoman whose guiding motto is to “protect the people important to her.”

Eris travels with Rudeus and Ruijerd Superdia across the Demon Continent after the Fittoa Region Displacement Incident.

Later, misunderstanding Rudeus’s intentions and feeling like a burden, she leaves to train at the Holy Land of the Sword and dedicates herself to becoming strong enough to stand beside him.

She is also the protagonist of the spinoff comic “Mushoku Tensei: Eris Works Herself to the Bone.”

In an online popularity poll by Netorabo for Mushoku Tensei characters, she ranked second.

Upon adulthood she drops her middle name “Boreas” and simply calls herself Eris Greyrat.

However, in many fan works she is still labeled as Eris Boreas Greyrat even after her coming of age.

Eris is a strikingly beautiful girl with wavy, vivid crimson hair that is her trademark.

They nevertheless worried that she might not fit the refined expectations of noble society and considered that she might become an adventurer instead.

Before Rudeus, multiple tutors tried to educate her but were all driven away, often quite literally beaten into resigning.

The only ones she tolerated were the beastwoman “Sword King” Ghislaine Dedoldia, who taught her swordsmanship and served as her bodyguard, and her wet nurse Edna Leylune.

When Rudeus became her private tutor, he taught her reading, writing, arithmetic, and basic magic.

After he clearly explained why these studies were necessary, Eris accepted them and began to study seriously.

Eris and Rudeus are caught in the Fittoa Region Displacement Incident, a catastrophe that teleports them to the Demon Continent.

There, they meet Ruijerd Superdia, a warrior of the feared Superd race, who becomes their companion and mentor.

During their long journey back toward the Fittoa Region, Ruijerd teaches Eris various demon combat techniques and battlefield experience.

She steadily grows stronger, but her perception lags behind her actual ability, and she frequently feels like she is only being protected rather than contributing.

Rudeus also later acquires a “foresight eye,” boosting his combat awareness and making Eris feel that the gap between them is widening further.

A battle beneath a red dragon’s lower jaw, in which Rudeus is nearly killed by Orsted, deeply traumatizes her and drives home just how powerless she still feels.

In combat, she specializes in powerful overhead blows and an unusual rhythm that throws off an opponent’s timing and guard.

Her attacks are direct and overwhelming, but not mindless—she skillfully uses feints, tempo changes, and footwork learned from her mentors.

Thanks to Rudeus’s teaching, Eris can use basic fire, water, and wind magic at the elementary level.

However, since a Sword God Style swordsman favors close‑range aggression while magicians fight at range, she practically never uses magic in real combat.

The sword was forged by Julian Harrisco, a legendary “master craftsman of the demon realm.”

While it is not a magic sword and has no special supernatural abilities, its balance and quality are exceptional.

Even the Sword God Gal Farion, a connoisseur who collects swords as a hobby, praises it as a “good sword.”

In Eris’s hands, its lightness and durability perfectly complement her fast, aggressive style.

Beastfolk Hood

This is a cloak with a hood originally intended for beastfolk, with special pockets for animal ears.

Rudeus bought it on the Demon Continent so that Eris’s red hair would attract less attention.

Because it was a gift from Rudeus, Eris cherishes it and wears it frequently while traveling.

It is both sentimental and practical, helping her blend in when needed.

Eris also wears a headband in which an iron plate is sewn.

Rudeus Greyrat is Eris’s private tutor, traveling companion, and first love.

The fact that he never abandons her, even when she feels like a burden, cements her mixture of love, respect, and gratitude.

In contrast to some violent heroines who abuse the protagonist, Eris’s hits are usually responses to clear provocation like harassment or cruel remarks.

Most of the time, she supports him fiercely and wants nothing more than to fight at his side and protect his back.

Ghislaine Dedoldia

Ghislaine Dedoldia is Eris’s sword master, bodyguard, and older‑sister‑like figure.

Eris and her grandfather Sauros once found Ghislaine collapsed and helped her, which created a powerful bond of mutual gratitude.

Ghislaine sees her younger self in Eris and treats her with unusual tenderness and strict but caring discipline.

Eris loves and respects Ghislaine deeply, and even after learning from many other masters, she insists that Ghislaine alone is her true “sword master” (while Rudeus and Ruijerd are “teachers”).

Ruijerd Superdia

Ruijerd Superdia is a warrior of the Superd race who becomes Eris’s comrade on the Demon Continent.

He recognizes her drive to get stronger and teaches her various demon combat methods, tactical thinking, and the mindset of a warrior.

Ruijerd himself can be extremely dangerous when angered, at times arguably more ruthless than Eris.

Still, he values Eris’s straightforwardness and is one of the people who affirm that she can become stronger than he is.

Sauros Boreas Greyrat

Sauros Boreas Greyrat is Eris’s grandfather.

He dotes on her and defends her fierce personality, saying that Asura nobles must be this strong‑willed.

However, he is not blind to her flaws and will scold her when she behaves rudely toward Rudeus, especially when it interferes with her education.

In the anime adaptation, he even gives her a trial at her birthday party, pushing her to grow beyond mere tantrums.

Philip Boreas Greyrat and Hilda Boreas Greyrat

Philip Boreas Greyrat and Hilda Boreas Greyrat are Eris’s parents.

They care about her deeply but are also anxious about the consequences of her violent upbringing.

Because Sauros often excuses Eris’s behavior as acceptable for an Asura noble, they are hesitant to crack down too harshly.
