The fifth prince of the Kingdom of Atera, Bernina is a beautiful young woman with blond hair and blue eyes. She visits Japan to participate in the sister city signing ceremony and reunites with her close friend from her time studying in England, Haruka Kōmi. Bernina is a train enthusiast and quickly bonds with Naoto Takayama. During their journey to Hokkaido, Haruka Kōmi is in charge of her security.
Her true gender is a secret; due to being involved in a family incident, Bernina’s health deteriorates, and her identity is discovered by Naoto Takayama. Afterwards, she develops feelings for him. Her family is safe, and following the resolution of the incident, she holds a press conference praising the members of Fourth Public Security, which spares them from punishment.
At the beginning of Volume 5, Bernina visits Naoto Takayama’s home but is forcibly brought back to Bergen. Between Volumes 8 and 9, the members of Fourth Public Security visit the Kingdom of Atera, and Bernina becomes good friends with Aoi Sakurai.
During the "National Railway Railjack Incident," the media reports that Bernina and her royal guard subdued the terrorists, which helped suppress public criticism. Her name is inspired by the Bernina Express of the Swiss Rhaetian Railway. While she is close to Naoto Takayama and Haruka Kōmi, Shō Iwaizumi refers to her by her last name.
