Lutheran Barnett

Vice principal of Midgar Magic Swordsman Academy and Sherry's adoptive father. He is a personable gentleman but is actually a member of the cult and a former Rounds (it is unclear which seat he held).

He was a sword master who won the Martial God Festival, but soon after fell ill and was forced to retire. Aiming to make a comeback in the Rounds, he focused on curing his illness and found a breakthrough in artifact research, which he had Lucreia, Sherry's mother, conduct. He discovered effects beyond treatment in an artifact called "Greed's Eye," but conflicted with Lucreia over its dangers. When Lucreia suggested sealing it, he brutally murdered her by stabbing her limbs first and continued his research by adopting her daughter Sherry. Even Sid, who had abandoned interest in others, found his actions "displeasurable."

To cure his illness with Greed's Eye, he had his subordinates impersonate members of Shadow Garden and take over the academy, but in the end, he was killed by Shadow in the same manner he had killed Lucreia.

Despite being close to death, the fact that Shadow spoke about the method of Lucreia's murder, which only Sid knew, led to the realization by a few that Shadow's true identity was Sid. He also managed to anger Sid, who is usually indifferent to others.

In "Shadow Garden," he has not caused the academy takeover incident and is not deceased, currently living with Sherry.
